My Valkyrie currently requires a lot of choke to keep running .thought some of you gurus could help   The bike had cobra 6x6 exhaust I replaced them to stock because they were rusted bad after sitting for a while not being ridden the idel problem started I know that it probably has replaced jets ect but would still run ok. So here is what I have done so far removed carbs cleaned as much as possible except idel screws because I did not have a d socket  installed and ran the same so I found a d socket removed the screws cleaned and reinstalled set to 2.25  1.5 1.75 all ran the same idel. I replaced the plugs good spark all cyls.read it might be bad slow air valves or vacuum?Any ideas anyone. Might just buy a used set from ebay with stock setup and go from there

How long did this monster set without being run ?
How are all the vacuum lines ? Been replaced correctly lately ? Has anything else been done recently, like a timing belt change or trigger wheel change ? If everything on the outside is proper then I'd recommend another good carburetor cleaning then a proper sync. If the low jets are 35s, set the pilots to 2.25 turns. 1.5-1.75 turns if 38s.

My STD idled crappy, needed choke to start at 70° since I got her. Even sounded like a diesel knock in the engine for the first couple of miles, After many rounds of seafoam and many other magic elixirs, I gave up and removed the slow jets. They were plugged badly, I have an injector cleaning kit with a .035 mm wire that I used, I did get them cleaned and it runs better than it has for 10 years. They are very hard to clean and I would suggest getting new jets as a time saving investment.  P.S. I did this without removing the carbs from the bike, but don't know if I would go that route again.  tickedoff

Sounds like the slow speed jets are dirty. The pilots should be about 2 1/4 turns out. Be sure and resynchronize the carbs.

Thanks for all the help I bought a use set of stock carbs from a parts recycler with all stock jets from a running bike for 250 thought I would bite the bullet because I didn't know what has been modified on these carbs .any way cleaned them and installed runs like new no choke required to start and idel 900rpm  I can go through the carbs later and have for spare or parts. Only good thing is I am getting good at removing and replacing carbs. thanks again
