Time to replace my original windshield on my 97 standard as it has become pitted over the years.  What do you recommend?

I had an OEM on my 97 standard.  It was in pretty good shape until I accidentally hit it with a shovel and scratched it.  I purchased another OEM from Directline but when I got it, it wasn't even close to the quality of the original.  It wasn't cut evenly and I have a hard time believing it was even a Honda part.  The reason I wanted an OEM is because they (at least they used to be) are made of Lexan with a protective coating on them.  I ended up buying the Clearview and I'm very happy with it.  Optically it is very good and it fit my brackets perfectly.

Sounds like Clearview is a good choice.   What does everyone think of Batwing style fairings?
 Thanks!

Batwings look great and there is some choice. Search here for lots of experience and opinions. You will need to go the extra expense and work over that of just the replacement. Painting alone will add quite a bit to the cost. FWIW

I love my Woodys fairing.

They are made specific for the Valkyrie.  They are a fiberglass fairing...much easier to get it repaired if you ever need it repaired....as oposed to a plastic fairing.

http://www.woodysfairings.com/fairingsetc/HNFVLKX.html

It cost me $200.00 to get the outter fairing painted in black with clear coat.

The inner part of the fairing is still in the black gell coat that the fairing comes in.  Didn't see any need to have it painted.

Windshields are cheap.  The Woodys fairing takes all standard three hole Harley shields.  You can buy several and experiment.  It only takes a minute to change out the shield on a Woody.

Regular shields are cheap....shields with re-curve are more $$.

I got my shields here....

There's also....

Some other fairing options include piecing together and modifying a Harley fairing to fit your Valk.

Also Wide Open Customs makes fairing for the Valk.  They are a plastic fairing.

If you don't care to have a stereo in your fairing, Memphis Shades makes outter shells for the Valk.

No question, Clearview.  I replaced by stock windshield with a "Shorty" and now instead of looking through the stock windshield, my eyes are just over the top of the Clearview.  Added bonus was the Clearview is made out of thicker more superior materials than stock.  Really detracts from buffeting and such.  I added the options vent.

I highly recommend the Memphis Shades batwing fairing with a recurve windshield.  Also add lowers, such as made by Rifle.  My black 2002 Valk is rock solid in the wind.  A regular stock windshield kind of pushes the wind . . . a batwing shapes the wind and makes a world of difference.  More info here:

F4 CUSTOM

Yeah, I heard these were highly resistant to scratching and stuff.

My seven year old Clearview is still real good, but I sweat over
only cleaning it with water and a microfiber cloth... I think you're
supposed to be able to grind off the bugs on a F4 CUSTOM shield
with a paper towel from the gas station and still not scratch it.

My original OEM made about 10 years and 100k and I replaced with another OEM.

One of the used bikes I bought has a clear view.  Outside go the missing part under the headlight, I can't tell the diff when riding or parked.

I bought the F4..oversized and sit behind it. No swirls , and I clean it with windex and paper towels .
The guys at F4 were great in discussing the features.
It does not shed water like I expectd but maybe adding Rain-x will help.
Not a huge minus....

Just FYI.  There have been negative reports on using Rain X on plastic - shields and visors.  Also they say on the label not to.  Fogging or some-such.  Don't recall the exact detail but I'm thinking search will bring it up.  Also using Johnson's Wax furniture polish - turns yellow.  No problems with Plexus other than the cost.  Personally I just use hydrogen peroxide after the Plexus was gone.

The F4 Custom folks say Rain-X and Windex are OK with their shield.

I just looked... they only list Interstate shields... didn't they used to make Tourer
shields?

Wow.  Yes they used to offer Tourer shields.

I just checked also...and you're a 100% correct....no more Tourer shields from F4 Custom.

That narrows the OEM replacement choices down to just OEM, Clearview and Cee Baileys now.

We're dinosaurs.   Sad

Pasting directly from Memphis Shades site.

"Never use any glass cleaning products, petroleum based chemicals, or cleaning agents with ammonia, bleach or any other harsh chemicals. This includes (but not limited to) RainX, brake fluid, acetone, paint thinner, benzene and gasoline. “If it hurts your nose, it will hurt the plastic.”

The use of glass cleansing agents will cause severe damage to your windshield, and will void your warranty."

Personally, I have used nothing but Lemon Pledge to clean my Memphis Shades shields for many years on 3-4 different MS shields with great results.
