I spoke with Des today.  He's still out on the rally circuit for another month.  He doesn't expect to have seats for us until at least January.  He will be making a two piece set up (so you can go solo or two up), as well as backrests for pilot and passenger.  The passenger seat will be quite a bit wider than stock, so the rails will have to go, if you use the passenger seat.

I also told Des about the problem with reach to handlebars and the lack of a suitable solution.  He said they would work on 2 versions... one with the standard seating position and one with a more forward position.

Connie, if they had of built you farther from the ground, you wouldn't have a problem.    LOL.      cooldude cooldude

Thanks for checking!...

I have ordered (but not yet recieved) an extra set of risers. The Valkyrie's risers are
rubber mounted, and have non-standard "studs" that plug into the rubber mounts,
hence the problem with finding other risers that will work. I hope I can screw the
studs out of the OEM risers and screw them into some other set of risers, and
solve the handlebar reach problem... if it works, it will be easy and pretty
cheap, the OEM risers are $25 each... I could just go to town on the OEM risers
that are on there, but if I mess them up, I don't want to be left with no risers  Smiley ...

I have a Utopia backrest, and I've adjusted it forward some to help with the bars
some too...

Good luck on removing them. I tried to remove some from a old set of Valkyrie risers with no luck. They were either installed during the casting or applied with a high strength lock tite. Have you looked at a set of off set blocks?

I have these, I'm not sure if that's what you mean...

They still need to plug into the rubber mounts. And if they fit, it is only
by a hair's thickness, it is tight in there. If I can't solve the problem with
some kind of riser-mod (tell me more about offset blocks) there's
always some kind of different bars. But since the windshield mounts to
the bars, that might be hard too...

If this thing I'm calling the "riser stud" won't screw out of the riser,
then I'm... screwed...

Why don't you just look at replacing the bars?

I've clicked on a bunch of handlebar web pages. If I could somehow find and
pick "the right set", that would probably do the trick. I wish there was a
"handlebar superstore" down at the corner, I'd take my bars off and go
down there and compare them until I found the right ones... is there someplace
in Atlanta where they have 100 sets of handlebars on display? I guess I
could measure the OEM bar's overall-width, center-width, pullback size and
height and just try to pick from a web page...

My extra set of OEM risers (well, the left one) came yesterday. They're each different,
with these LED-pod mounting tabs on them...

The way they plug into the rubber mounts is not something that is going to
"unscrew" from the riser itself...

There's a bunch of Harley risers that fit into similar rubber mounts, but there's
little chance that they are the same size. Plus, the mounting tabs wouldn't be there.

Someone's going to have to make special Honda Valkyrie risers, or else these
are it.

That was my original intent.  However, after mounting the windshield, I realized it would be rather difficult to find a bar that will match the handlebar mounts.  If the aftermarket comes up with a shield that is not handlebar mounted, the bar option will be back on the table.

I know it may complicate the search, but until someone makes a riser, it would seem to be simpler. As far as the windshield goes, I have not studied it . I'd think that if the bottom part of the bars were the same width (where the first bend is on both sides) that the windshield would simply follow the lines of the bars. What you're looking for would seem to be a little taller bar that when rotated back towards the rider slightly, they become closer and a little higher. This would also naturally lean the windshield back slightly, which I've seen a couple of people do anyway with some homemade adapters. Just a thought.

How about these. They are expensive, and I haven't seen some specifically for the Valk, but they do make 1" bars for others. They are considered the ultimate bar for the Goldwing/F6Bs.
This link is for a Harley Dyna but there are lots's of variations.
