and no love bugs. We are in Hiawassee Ga. Staying at Bald Mountain RV park for a few more days. Temp was 67 last night and 74 when we took off for a ride at 11 am. Supposed to cool off some this week. Anyone remember Cushman motor scooters? The Southeast Cushman club is having their fall gathering here in this park this week. I took some pictures and will add them later. I think they originally had 8 hp and some of the guys have taken the old Cushman Husky motors off and replaced them with a Briggs and Stratton based Vanguard two cylinder. Some guy in N.C. supposedly can get it to make around 50 HP and they will do Interstate speeds. I don't think I would want to. They also have disc brake upgrades and radial tires. Most of them have little or no mufflers on them but they have been pretty considerate and don't start riding until about 8 am. In my younger days owned a couple of then, 1 lungers vibrated enough to blur your vision at any thing over 45 mph. But had a lot of fun and rode them many miles.

Life is like a hot bath. It feels good while you’re in it, but the longer you stay in, the more wrinkled you get.

Way cool ! When I worked for Engineering for OMC (makers of Cushman among lots of other products) I could have bought a couple of pristine Cushmans that belonged to Ralph Evinrude. He kept them stored there at the Test Center. Dirt cheap too......darn it I passed on them. When he passed away the bikes went to his grandson who had no interest in them. He got a 37'Topaz and a '63 Corvette Split Window Coupe completely original down to the hose clamps with almost zero miles on it. Never had to work another day either!! Immediately brought it up to my house to throw a different cam in it.

OK, I'm officially jealous! Glad your getting to enjoy the cooler weather AND some mountains. My Dad had a Cushman like the red one (your 5th picture). He rode it to work on base for a decade or more, rain or shine. It had some sort of kick starter on it if I remember. We used to stand up in front of the seat and get a ride around the block. That would probably be child abuse now days. Thanks for sharing Terry. Y'all have fun.

I'm happy to see that you and Iris got away for some relaxation. Let us know about that campground

it is 3 1/2 miles off the main drag highway 76. We thought that we must have taken a wrong turn, but finally got here. Temp was 59 last night. We got in about 150 miles today on the bike, went to South Carolina and visited a couple of falls. Like most campgrounds if you stay for a week you usually get one day free. We are staying one more week. I don't care for campgrounds on the highway where you hear all the traffic all day and night. The one in Maggie Valley that we mentioned Trails End is similar in that it is off the beaten path.

Oh yeah, some great memories brought back from those pics. My cousin had one like the yellow scoot in the second to last picture. We put some miles on that thing, much to my aunt's dismay sometimes. He also had a homemade scooter much like a DoodleBug, made all kinds of noise but didn't go very fast. We changed that one summer....again, much to the parents dismay. Gravel roads and all, we never dumped them. The Cushman broke down about 5 miles from home one time, we went to a nearby farmhouse and called home for help. We were told to either fix it to get us home or start walking. We borrowed some rope and I pulled him home with the homemade scoot. We weren't even 10 yrs. old at the time, try that today and the parents would be tossed in jail.
