Today as I was riding I came up to a stop light.  I was in the right lane and a Black Ferrari 430 pulls up on the side of me.  He being as juvenile as I am rev'ed up once or twice so I said what the ____ and rev'ed back.

Well the light turned green and off we went...  After a few seconds he started to pull away.

Well at first I was making excuses, If I had my dark side tire I would have had better traction, If I had Attic Rats tune I would have been a little faster and my favorite, If I knew how to drive any at all I may have gotten a better start.  Then it hit me.  WAIT a minute, this is a bike that cost me less than $10K!!!  And I was keeping up with a >$100K Ferrari!!!

My Fat Lady did alright....  Especially since I am a dumb @$$ and don't know how to "launch" or "race"...

Personally I recognize I don't have the fastest wheels on the road. The biggest dick contests kinda faded into the past for me. Deerslayer is faster than 95% of the cages, and pretty much all non-sport bikes and other cruisers except the Boss Hoss, V-Rod, V-Max, Rocket III, Magna, ST1300, tweaked Harleys based on the 106, and maybe the F6B, 2014 Valkyrie... crap.  There's quite a few...  So I don't take the bait.  Point to the goldfish tank on the back seat.  If I want to beat them to the drag-race merges on the on-ramps - I pretty much get the drop on them.  Then I'm in the merge lane in front of them before they knew they were in a race.  Not fair, I know.  So what. There's no wager involved. There are plenty of really fast cars out there now.  600hp Vettes, Cameros, Mustangs and all the expensive euro cars.  Not gonna beat them except hole shots unless I get the drop on them.

MarkT is exactly right there.

Besides if ya get caught drag racing it is in most states an automatic 90 day suspension of the driving privileges.

Then ya got to do exactly like ya did when ya was 16 to get that driving privilege.      Go through the written tests, the driving test and that includes doing it for the motor endorsement.

Not worth it.

I'm a white guy, so most likely I've already lost the biggest dick contest before I even get started.

I prefer the Dan Meyer approach.

No VA

In VA, if they think they can prove drag racing (speed contest), they can civilly forfeit your bike/car, as well as the (likely multiple) performance awards requiring your presence in a courthouse.

Of course, this is how they end up owning some really neat and quick unmarked police cars.

And even if you ended up beating the underlying drag racing-speeding-reckless driving tickets in traffic court, that is no guarantee you would beat the civil forfeiture action on your vehicle.

No stoplight to stoplight for me... I prefer back roads with lots of curves. Been known to hound the occasional 'Vette, Lotus & Ducati 1098 on said roads.  2funny

i fly airplanes for a family. we have two...my normal ride is a king air 350, it goes 300 kts at 31000 feet at about $1,000 per hour. we also have a lear 45, which goes 450 kts at 47,000 feet and costs 2,000 per hour to run.

my boss and i ran numbers on a typical trip to telluride, where he owns some real estate. its 3 hours in the king air vs 2 in the lear. so, $3,000 vs $4,000 but he saves one hour. well, actually only 45 minutes by the time climb speeds and taxi time are accounted for.

so, i aksed him if his time was worth $1,200 per hour...if it was, he should use the lear. he replied that he makes about $4,000 per hour whether he is awake, asleep, in the airplane or on the ground and he would rather be more comfortable. the king air has a much bigger cabin.

all this to say, i agree we win the race to the artic circle in the valk. it is a smooth fun comfy ride. and if the guy in the ferrarri wants to race, ill bring the lear 45 and kick his ass.

Dang I'd be happy with my $22 if I could get it while I slept.
