Before I say anything, would that count as insulting someone's truck, or are those not a protected class, and can be criticized? 'cause I've learned, never say anything remotely negative about a person's truck...   Undecided

That looks like a Corvette make over into an el Camino.

I had a 59 El Camino and I like the older ones better.

Would of liked the engine in this one in the 59 however.

Don't get me wrong, that 59 would fly with that little 4 bbl 283 ci.

There is a Pontiac version of a Camino at GM Proving Grounds in Milford that I would drive every chance I got. Has a 6L or something that screams. You'll never see one, since obummer kilt Pontiac Division. Thought of taking pics of it, but that would likely cost my job, but I liked that one too

Not sure if I like it or not, would like to see one up close before making that decision but, I'll bet it's a blast to drive.    Evil

I had a 79 SS El Camino for a number of years, and loved it (mostly).  Bought off a lot in Montgomery AL, it had been the City police dispatcher's car from new (with all catalytic removed, and other tweaks given all police cruisers), and when the salesman billed it as a genuine redneck Cadillac, I was sold.

Shipped it over for two tours in Turkey, and got somewhat close to Russia and Syria.  Blew thru a traffic stop (paperwork check) outside of Konya Tu at around 110, they didn't have radios, but shook their fists (civilian police, not the Jandarma military who have machine guns).  LOL   Later slept in back in Sequoia and Yosemite Nat Parks. Taught the wife to drive in it.  Big speed ticket somewhere north of El Paso TX in the wasteland, heading to NoVA after service.  Memories.....

With no kids and only two-up it's great, but you have to run a camper shell to get actual use of storage in back (locked stuff, and camping off the ground).  Same AC as a regular size car, and was an icebox.  And in snow and ice, it slipped all over the place with rear wheel dr.  Sold around 1995, when repairs  exceeded value.

Same colors: (with matching silver shell: later replaced burgundy tape/two-tone with dark grey)

Shell like this. (it doesn't look as sporty, but certainly functional)

My uncle had a nice mid 80's newer el camino SS with topper and that thing was nice for ONLY 2 people.  Went ice fishing with him though when in high school years ago and had to push him out of the downward snowy parking lot to backup - 2WD sucks on these in winter even with 400lbs. in the backend but does help from slidding around some.

If I was single and NEVER needed to carry more than 2 people,  I'd buy one for sure over a gas guzzler V8 pickup truck.  A V6 is all you really need anyways for towing 3-4,000 lbs. around with an el camino just fine.  I'd just add 400 lbs. in the bed in WI winters and have fun doing some donuts.

People nowadays think they NEED AWD vs. just FWD.  I tell them learn how to drive since I grew up with RWD only and NEVER had an issue I could not get out of eventually.  So you spin tires on snow a ton more or have to backup a driveway to get a run at it or spin tires a ton more from a stop sign, eventually you will get it going just not as fast is all as FWD or AWD.  There lies the problem,  people have NO patience at all anymore while driving have to get there ASAP with no tolerance for consuming a mere 2-5 minutes more time in their travel destination.

Not everyone will agree with me but, FWD is the way to go for folks who don't understand or have little or no experience driving RWD vehicles.    I personally don't prefer FWD vehicles and would always rather have a RWD.   Although they have gotten better with design, I really dislike the torque steering one gets with FWD vehicles.

I bought a '78 El Camino SS in 1987...still have it. It had a 305 which I replaced with a small block 400 in '89.  It's currently sitting on jacks in the garage undergoing a rebuild. Will post pics if I ever finish it !!    The new one will have to grow on me.

Years ago I saw a Caprice wagon that had been converted to an El Camino by the folks at GM. It was at a car show in Knoxville, TN. Woulda liked to have had one of those !!!!

Yeah, my '79 SS also had the so-so 305 two-bolt main.  Would have been so much better with with a 327 or 350 four-bolt main.  And the OE auto trans was crap (mine was upgraded to a 350 hydromatic (if I remember right), and had to change the starter for the different flywheel.  Like most all cars in the mid 70s to early 80s, the late 60s looked a lot better.  But mine gave many years of good service.

1968

1969 (and I had already had a '69 SS 396 Chevelle, which is what they chopped to make the El Camino)

Bought a 75' GMC Sprint when I was 17 yrs old:

It had a 350 and would run 140 mph plus easily.

I ran volunteer rescue when I was in high school and used it to respond to calls. Once after going to a really bad wreck on the interstate a state trooper approached me and asked how fast I had been going.

I told him that I didn't know.

He told me that he was run 125 mph when I got onto the interstate in front of him and that  I walked off and left him like he was going backwards.

It turned out to be a dang chick magnet.

It's a good thing that it had the bench seat and a good thing that it couldn't talk.

I like this new El Camino, I doubt that I'll like the price.

Aren't they all right hand drive?

There was one on Hot Rod Power Tour one year I chased from California to Florida.

There was a group of 6 of us and he was right in front of me.

We changed leaders every day, and I think I led twice on that trip.
