I am tired of this bull, and all the misinformation. I bought a so called good final drive advertised on the classifieds  and found it was worn out crap. I asked around and was told a 2000 Goldwing final drive would work. I have bought one of them and we will see. I will let it be known loudly and with certainty if they are interchangeable or not..

The gear cases look physically different.  Maybe some of the internal parts are interchangeable?  I wouldn't buy used rear end parts without very clear photos of everything, especially splines.

If its just the wheel splines worn, they are still available new for less than $150.  I've seen guys on ebay selling splines used for more than this!  If it's gears in the drive itself...  bummer.  But the wheel splines are supposed to be a softer metal to wear out first.

If you're talking about the splines in the drive hub, these are not sold new from Honda by themselves.  You have to buy the ring gear with spline cup and the pinion gear as a set and it's about $450.  The star hub that fits in the wheel is another $100 or so.

The Goldwing drive is not exactly interchangeable, but the flange cup and star hub are.  You will need to press your spline cup out of the ring gear of your drive, and do the same for the Goldwing ring gear, then press the Goldwing spline cup into your ring gear, then reassemble.

Hopefully, you got the star hub to go with the Goldwing drive as used parts should be matched whenever possible.

If you're talking about the pinion cup splines (interface to the drive shaft) this and a drive shaft are available new for about $200.

The pinion cups are interchangeable with the Goldwing, but the drive shafts are not.  The GW drive shaft is longer.

I have been given a contact that has a reputation for honest assessments of what they sell... I can ask if they have any final drives for your bike... there is also one available an hour from me that I could inspect for you....

How about posting a close photo of the worn parts......

Misinformation?  I have seen no posting here stating that the GW drive is interchangeable.  Now, some members have mastered the art of removing just the splines from a GW drive and transplanting them into their Valkyrie drive.

I have noticed that some people don't search and read near as much on a subject as they say they do, and seem to "hear" what they want or need to "hear" then complain when reality hits.

Not saying you are guilty of this, its just that on the subject of the final drive there has been a lot of good accurate info posted lately, I don't recall much that could qualify as misinformation.

I too would like to see pictures.  If the actual spline teeth don't look like the pictures you were shown prior to the purchase I would ask to return for refund.

Why not just let us know what the problem is and we can help you get pointed in the right direction. Not much goes wrong with these things that can't be fixed with new parts for a couple hundred bucks or less.

I have 'repaired' two Valk Final Drives using parts form Goldwing 1500 Final Drives. You have to remove the wheel-side cover from the final drive and lift the ring gear out. Remove the side bearing if it came out with the ring gear. Do the same for both final drives. Use a black marker and mark the ring gears GW and Valk to keep them straight. Take both ring gears to a machine shop and tell them to press the Goldwing hub from the GW ring gear. Then press the Valk hub out of the Valk ring gear and then press the GW hub into the Valk ring gear. Take home and reassemble. Be sure to follow the manual when re-installing the side cover as far as sealing, torque, etc. Make sure the assembly turns freely. Virtually everything inside of the final drive of the Goldwing is identical to the Valk with the exception of the ring & pinion and the pinion gear snout bearing (snout is smaller on the GW).
As has been said, pinion cups are absolutely swapable between the two.

Also, there are plenty of people in this club that are knowledgeable and willing to help. Texas seems to a big percentage of these people along with 'wrench parties'. You are not alone.

Just 2 weeks ago I bought a final drive and rear wheel flange thru the classifieds on this site.
It arrived promptly as promised and was in exactly as described condition (almost new).

This was from a VRCC member in Kansas and was priced fairly.

Sorry you are having hard time. My experiences were different.
