My gently used 2001 Standard came equipped with what I think are called "ground effects" purple LEDs (?) that light up the engine and wheels at night switched from one switch in a three switch gang on a chrome extension to the clutch hydraulic reservoir.

This afternoon I washed the bike as snow is coming and today is likely my last ride until late March/early April. All I want to do now is cover the bike. But the purple lights are glowing faintly even though switched off. When I switch on they get MUCH MUCH brighter! I pulled the top off of the three switch gang and the electric tape splices seem to be OK and reasonably dry. Not elegant electrical work but it used to work fine.

Can anyone suggest the easiest way to track this down? I could pull the battery easily enough but that would just postpone the problem to next spring. I own a 12-volt tester but not a meter.

Thank you,
Fiat Lux (Ironically!)

You need to disconnect your battery anyway.  A low voltage drain on the battery is still a voltage drain no matter how small.  Unless you figure it out quickly, they'll kill your once good battery.

Check how the lights are grounded. Separate the LED ground from all other grounds. Keep your battery on a smart charger for the winter.

I have the same switchbox on my tourer.Once after riding in the rain my home built 4way systen came on and wouldn't shut off.Water in those switches can turn on low current circuits,Ihave my 4ways on an *87/87 relay.
If you can blow dry the switch and work some dielectric grease into the toggle it should be ok.
I cover the switchbox and my cruise cont.switches with a latex glove whenever I wash the bike too.
