Used to get in the upper 30's, sometimes low 40's if not loaded too heavy and my right hand didn't start twitching. Yesterday I covered just shy of 200 miles, the first leg was 103 and took 3.9 gal. to fill it up before the return trip. That's in the mid-20's, I've never had that lousy mileage before so thinking after only 44k I might have to do a carb cleanup. Any thoughts, suggestions, etc., are welcome.

Well, this is embarrassing, it seems my eyesight has also dropped off a bit....especially up close. After posting the original problem, I sat there and stared at the receipt, just couldn't believe the mileage was that lousy so thought maybe my glasses might make the figures come out clearer. Most certainly did, what I thought was 3.876 was actually lousy printing on the receipt and it's actually 3.016(I also used a magnifying glass on the desk to be sure). For 103 miles with the first 16 being city driving, using my glasses the mileage jumped a good 8 mpg to 34.16. So, lesson learned; you want to improve your mileage....use your glasses. Guess I can relax now!

I'd still check the damn air filter and maybe you can increase it some more.
MGM, has some mods made to the engine, port & polish, and it still pulls 39 mpg, at hard throttle and such. Normal 1 lane road riding in no hurry, he will pull around 42 to 44 mpg. He runs in the high 30's with the Trike kit on the back.
On Harley Poker runs and before the Trike kit addition, it would get solid 45 mpg.
One time on 2 wheels pulling my stage coach trailer loaded coming from Sturgis, my riding buddy pissed me off about my pulling into a gravel parking lot, I pulled back out, twisted the throttle to about a dollar & a nickle and held it there to Eastern SD, I got 9 to 12 mpg. His Yama Hopper Venture Royale, had a hard time keeping up and he did not have a trailer on. I had all of his crap in mine with my stuff on this trip.
Guess what, he never bitched about a gravel parking lot again. He learned to ride in a gravel lot. Got pretty good at it also. Also, he always lead instead of alternating. That part I didn't care, as I always hated to run faster than he wanted to and he would never say anything on that, he'd just try to keep up.

I asked the same questions a while back and got bitched at. Right now I'm getting around 28 mpg riding at 55 mph with the tac sitting on 2500. The idle seems kind of high to me (around 1000-1100). I have pipes with the baffles cut off and was wondering if that might be some of the problem. I guess I'll look at replacing the air filter and maybe plugs this week-end. Its not much fun riding a rocket if you can't give it the gas.

If you're talking about the "piggies", there will be no affect upon mpg. ***
