Hi all,  When I got the valk running after sitting 7 years, we had to replace the screen & pick-up tube.
Also  the mechanic that did it took it all apart and cleaned it and made sure it worked.
So, here's the funny thing, twice now I've taken off and rode more than 50 miles with the dial on off.
BUT, if I just let it idle, it'll stall out unless I turn the gas on. We ordered a new one that came in damaged, so back it went. Mechanic cleaned the original again, and said he couldn't see anything wrong with it.
Are we missing something here? Think I'm ready to order another new one just for piece of mind.
thanks, Craig

If you're able to ride 50 miles with the Petcock dial turned to Off, something just ain't right. You shouldn't be getting any gas to the bike, period! Did your mechanic open the petcock and check the innards, especially the diaphragm?

Yes, he did take it apart, he got a rebuild kit for it instead of new at the time, the diaphram is new.
He specializes in wings and valks, and he had never had one do this before. Guess I should have gone new but I was short on cash and he saw no reason a kit wouldn't do the job.
thanks again,

There have been reports of the same thing happening. Most have come to the conclusion that you didn't have the ball indent actually in the off position, therefore the petcock was still turned on allowing fuel to flow.

This kind of multiple repairs doesn't sound right. Save your money and check some other things yourself.

A lot will come back and say to change the petcock out to a mechanical one from the OEM Honda one.

Check out this link showing the parts.

Thank you. TBH...your bike provided the inspiration. Love how your Valk looks in yellow.

Thanks everyone for the replies. I've noticed when I turn the gas off from the ON position, it's directly at 9 o'clock. If I turn it off from RESERVE position, the knob is slightly higher, more like 10 o'clock.  dunno???  I can hear and feel it click into the position either way.
Thanks gordonv, good reading in that link.

If you can ride 50 miles with the petcock off, and it dies at idle, you have the beginnings of hydrolock. I would replace the petcock as soon as possible. The dying at idle could be low vacuum, caused by a cracked vacuum line or a bad o-ring on the intake. Somewhere there are two problems, and you don't want a hydrolock under any circumstances. cooldude
