Does anyone have a 2000 or 2001 Interstate seat they want to sell?  It does not have to be perfect because I want to have it recovered.

Thanks!

Thanks Ghillie, the Jacksonville people don't know what model their seat fits; it doesn't fit their Tourer but that doesn't mean it will fit my I/S (I spoke with them a few days ago).  I'm not willing to buy it for $200 and find out it doesn't fit any Valkyrie's.  I haven't messed around with the seats on Valk's much, is the only difference in the I/S and the other models the way the seat mounts in the rear?

I was hoping to send a few bucks to a local rider instead of Pinwall.  Something about a company that butchers our beloved Valkyrie's on a daily basis bothers me.  If I haven't heard from any locals soon I'll probably order this one.

The one on the national classified board has been sold already.

The IS seat is one piece, whereas the other seat is a two-piece.  The rear mounting may be different (never looked at it, honestly).  The other difference is the nose.  The IS nose is different to accommodate the larger tank.

I'm curious why you say 2000/2001.  I don't know of any differences between those and a 99 IS seat.

No, Sir. Different profile at the tank. Bigger tank with a different shape. Subman modified the seat pan of a Corbin that was made for a Standard/Tourer to fit his SuperValk and it looked great. ~Jeff

I don't no if you ever looked, but I am running an IS seat on my standard. The seat that came on it was modded and didn't fit me well and I ended up giving it to Lemondrop for her Supervalk. We machined a rear bracket for the bolt, took all of ten minutes. It does make the storage under the seat useless as you have to unbolt the seat to get to it. IS riders who leave the passenger grab strap in place are used to unbolting anyway. Unless the seat in Jacksonville is not a Valk seat at all, it would definitely fit. I was contemplating getting it myself but am really looking at going back to a two piece.

I don't know how big a hurry you are in, I come across Valk seats all the time, usually $100 or less. I am going to go look at some parts today and I will let you know what happens. If I find a replacement for mine, you can have the one I am riding. I have $70 in it.

I have a stock I/S seat for a 1999 Valkyrie. If it will work for you, give me a call @ 214-563-9879.

I'm at work and don't have the links but I have read in the past that the '00/'01 seats are more comfortable than the '99.  I'm not sure what made them better but I figured if I have any choice I may as well start off with a more comfortable seat; it may be in the base.

I should have worded my question better; I was asking about the mount points.  The seller said that the rear mount wasn't correct so now I am thinking that they may have bought an I/S seat for their tourer.

Were you involved in that mod Jeff?  Do you know what he did to make it look great?

T-man, I'll call you when I get home tonight.

I think the difference in the quality of the seat applies only to the standard and tourer seats. After 99 they changed the standard seats to match the IS seats in comfort. Someone correct me if I am wrong.

The rear mount on an IS seat is a tab that slides back under the trunk I believe. To mount an IS seat on a standard, you remove the tab and bolt on a custom mount that bolts to the fender, we made the one for my Valk out of polished stainless. So someone who  bought an IS seat would think that it would not fit the standard. To mount a standard seat on an IS simply requires the stock mounting bracket and a bolt.

the 2000 standard seat is deeper in the back (REAR)  the earlier models slooped toward the gas tank giving the rider a wedgie as you were always sliding forward  tickedoff 2funny

If you find out that the 99 seat will meet your needs, I have one collecting dust.  It was on the bike for about 14k (at most) before the PO changed it out.

If you are having it recovered, you can put some extra cushion in it to make it meet your needs.

When I bought my bike it had 5,000 miles on it and if my memory is correct I replaced the seat with a Corbin around 10,000 miles. The seat is in excellant condition. It has no tears or rips. I do not have the strap that was originally with it. I would be willing to sell it for $ 60.00. I live in Plano and would be happy to meet you half way to make the exchange. Just let me know.

Vermithrax,

Sorry for the delay in getting back with you. It would be easier to arrange a time and place to meet if you would call me @ 214-563-9879. Anytime is fine.

I got a second chance offer on that backrest. I'll have $31 in it when it shows up if you want it.

I'll take it.  I'll pick it up at the wrench party.  Thanks Chris; would you ask the seller who made it; I'd like to see what the rest of the seat looks like.

Vermithrax:   I'm kinda new on this forum, but I was wandering thru the posts and -- --   Did I understand that you are looking for a Valk rider in the Jacksonville area to do some "research" on a seat for you?   If so, don't hesitate to contact me.    904-444-1292  Larry.     I'm in Jacksonville and I'm only about 3 miles from a Honda MC dealership.   I'll do whatever I can for you, Valk-buddy.   cooldude

Hi Larry, thanks for the offer.  I was working a deal with this lady;

http://jacksonville.craigslist.org/mcy/1314544530.html

But when she found out I was in Texas I never heard back from her.  She's either;

1. Scared of Texans
2. Sold the seat
3. Doesn't want to hassle the post office
4. Thinks I am trying to scam her

If you don't mind following up on the seat for me I would appreciate it.  I want it if it is in decent shape; I plan on recovering it so the upholstery doesn't have to be perfect.  I can Paypal you the cash or send a M/O, whatever works for you.  I’ll call you tomorrow.

Thanks!

Chuck

PS.  The marquee is cool.
