I have my fender off because I had some rubbing with two up with darkside mod.
That is completely understandable if your nut cages look like that.
I'm thinking the fender mod pictured is from an earlier year?
Has anyone dealt with the "nut cages" on a 99 I/S?They look considerable different.

I would appreciate some input on this-I'm in the middle of this as I type and the weather is primo.

I have a 99 I/S and when I did the nut cage mod it was similar and very easy.  I used a Dremel tool to cut the cage and then grind down the welds.  Be careful not to get it too hot or you will ruin the paint.

I used the same bolt.  I ground the hex head down so it looked like a carriage bolt, painted the head so it won't rust.  I installed it from the inside out and used an acorn nut on the outside.  Worked fine.

If you don't have an acorn nut handy, used one from each side of the rear muffler hanger.  There's a total of four there, so you'll be OK untill you find replacements. cooldude

"Get in a hurry-f... up"
I was focused on the front part of the fender and just set the rear part (the one I was supposed to be focused on) aside.
I found the nut cages and rid myself of them.I now need to go back to shop talk to hopefully find what length, etc of carriage bolts to use.

Thanks for the response and advice.
