Went out for the Christmas Toy Run today and got about 1.5km's from home and the Valk died. It seems as though my Danmarc valve has died and 'failed safe' as you would hope in the closed position.

Has anyone else had one of these fail?

Have you measured its resistance? It should measure in the 10-15 ohm range.

Edit: I measured a Model 111 at 10 ohms.

This is the first report I've read about a Dan Marc valve failure. Not saying it couldn't happen, but apparently not common. Anxious to hear the final outcome.

Have you checked the electrical connections to be sure a wire has not come loose?

I've had mine on for years with no problem. I do carry a spare when I travel. I have considered installing a manual valve just prior to the DanMarc, have it plumbed to bypass the elec. one in case of failure. Haven't done it as yet, maybe next year.....which never seems to get here.   Wink

Thanks for all the comments.

I will check the resistance out later. It seems definitely to have failed as I removed the solenoid connector for the fuse box and connected it directly to the battery and still no fuel flowing.

I will update this thread once I find the problem.

I suppose that a piece of crud could have lodged itself in the internal orifice and plugged the flow. I remember watching your rebuild/rescue of the Bumble Bee. Is it this bike? Was the tank rusted and could this be a culprit?

When the solenoid is connected to the battery does it get warm/hot? It should warm right up and eventually reach 175F (80C).

When I installed my Danmarc, I was concerned about it failing, so I made an easy to connect bypass hose.  This is how I did it:

1. Put a "T" at the input and output of the Danmarc.
2. Connect a bypass hose to the input side of the "T".
3. The bypass hose needs to be long enough to connect to the output "T".  (Common sense)
4. Plug the output end of the hose.  I used a screw and a hose clamp.
5. Plug the output "T".

If the Danmarc fails, just unplug the output "T" and the bypass hose and hook them together with the hose clamp that was on the bypass hose.  Basically you just made a plumbing jumper around the Danmarc.

This can be done on the side of the road with common tools so you can get going again.

I finally got around to fixing this a couple of days ago. Life got away from me since Christmas and not having a garage to work in compounded matters.

Anyway NOT a failed valve but a broken earth wire connection. Not sure why it broke but now extended and connected directly to the battery negative and all is well with the world of Valk again.
