I just bought Valk #3 and it had an electrical fire. No pictures as of yet and I have not started on it as I have another one I am finishing.
The fire was under the fuel tank and burned the right front side of the tank and the airbox and top of the carbs and I also noticed that all plug wires were burnt off. The battery still has a charge and during the fire , he cut the cable. ( good catch). The windshield ,tach and speedo head , headlight handle bar cables and wiring are all melted. I have not pulled the fuel tank , but was looking for ideas as to why the fire would start there while he had it on a charger.  I do not know if I will repair or sell outright or part out. I try to save the bikes. I worked on this bike early summer as this is the one that was leaking from a hydro-lock repair. I was going to buy this bike before the fire as his wife told him to get rid of it.

I'd inquire if the PO had installed custom wiring heading forward to whatever.  This may not have been properly fused.  Also rerouted wiring could cause a problem.  I have been under there many times and have not noticed any pinch points that could cause shorts.  Final thought, did the PO have the charger pluged into an accessory outlet that was up front?

I picked the bike up and pulled the tank. Tank had fuel and the lines were still connected. The best I can tell is an auxillary wiring failure caused the problem.
I have the bike in the classified as I am going to have shoulder replacement next Wednesday and already have a project bike to finish. To many bikes and to little room. It may be repairable or will part out if no takers.

Hope your surgery and recovery goes well Prez, I'll bet  big brother can help you with the therapy part. Wish I could take it off your hands, but the garage is full.

Thanks Red. Hope to see you at IZ15 this year. I am scheduled for both shoulders to be replaced , but told the doctor that the Valk needs to be run and the second surgery will have to wait until later this year.

Yea, you need to get that shoulder well, looking forward to seeing you two. Our 50th anniversary is coming up at the end of June, think I can squeeze INZANE in before that, besides, I dropped my bike on a left incline in Spearfish Canyon on hwy 14, gotta go back to correct that mishap.
