I have discoloration and some mild etching on my uncoated wheels.  Some say, "Who cares?  Ride and enjoy."  I'll enjoy it more if my wheels are as shiny and easy to clean as my final drive cover.

Has anyone either 1) polished and clear powder coated, or 2) gone the sandblast and 2-step "chrome" powder coat with clear powder coat on top route?

Talk to hard6, he has exchange chrome wheels.  He is a Lake Charles, Louisiana lad, he runs with Strider.

In answer to your question about powder coating, Yes, I powder coated my Trike wheel, but I never shot clear coat on it.  Powder coat is very very hard and very very very hard to chip, so I never saw the need to clear coat it.

I did it in Gray, that is what powder coat people call chrome..

This is the best picture I can come up with.  The front wheel, the rears are good old time warp wheels.

I stopped by Custom Powder Coating in Dallas Tuesday (their website welcomes drop-ins) and spent a few minutes in their showroom speaking with a nice lady who suggested I poke my head in at the production facility next door and ask for the GM, John.  Turns out John is an old friend and avid motorcycle enthuisast who's currently restoring an SL 90, among other things.  They have myriad options to consider.  He said their most common wheel application is Sparkle Silver (metallic) with Clear on top and said if I could get bare wheels to him on a Monday or Tuesday, he could get them back to me by Thursday or Friday for $75-$100 per wheel.  I took a sample and it looks good in the sun and next to the final drive cover.  I'm going give them a try (and take some Model T wheels at the same time).

So, my next step is to build a wooden lift adapter to go with my new yellow Craftsman lift.  I'll re-post when I have either more questions or a report.

I have polished my wheels for the last time, I’m going to powder coat them as soon as I can figure out what color I want, the polished aluminum does look good but it’s a lot of work to keep them looking like that

Hey Dave, I have a lift adapter you can use if needed. My son is visiting from Saginaw just off of 820 and 35W, I could send it with him. Hopefully you will see this post before Friday.

Yes, that's the one.  It's served me very well for years.

Thanks for thinking of me, Eli.  I have everything I need, and then some...

What larue said.  I rode with the sparkle silver wheels for a while, then got another set, polished them to high luster, and went with clear powder coat.
