All, have a '98 Tourer, and of course that means it's 16 years old (got it new in '99).  A couple of questions.

1) Has anyone seen any oil seepage from the engine, other than the shift seal area?

2) If so, has anyone put in the specific Hi Mileage variety (75k+) motor oil in their bikes?

I haven't had any seepage, but I ask because of the age.  The only leak I had was from the shift seal and I fixed that about a year ago.  I have almost 60k on mine which isn't a whole lot.

Wanna see what other folks' experience is.  Thanks all.

99 IS with 96,000 still low mileage

1 no
2 no  with a wet clutch you have to be careful with the high mileage oils some have friction modifiers

Yours is almost broke in! Don't worry about it, change the oil, oil filter and air filter when you should and ride.  Firefighter

180,000 miles and use regular syn. oil. with no friction modifiers. no oil leaks so far except 1 shifter shaft seal in its lifetime so far

100620 ish NO and NO. 99 I/S. Full synthetic and after market filters for the oil. RIDE SAFE.

I have 147K and no oil seepage issues. I use Mobil 1 and their high mileage oil has no friction modifiers in it. I do check the back of the bottle to make sure every time I buy oil.

MGM has 243K, and only had Mobil 1 in it since the 2nd oil change.

Use Wal-Mart or O'Reilly's oil filters.

Changed one shifter seal at 120K.

No leaks otherwise.

Great news!  Thanks for everyone's input.  Been using Pennzoil 10w-40 for years now - Opt not for the $8 per quart from Honda.  Been considering something else but have heard some negative things about putting synthetic in these engines, but clearly many of you are, so there's a rhyme to reason and I'll do some more research and figure something out.

Was at a gas station in Western AZ a few weeks ago and a guy started chatting with me about my ride and told me too, that these bikes aren't even broken in until 200k... cooldude

 cooldude  Mobil 1 15W50 for my Valks. I'm not sure where the evidence is to say that a synthetic is bad for this bike.  uglystupid2

No, and No  hi chris westnek here im using Castrol 10-40 4 stoke motor cycle oil ,have thought of mobil delvac15-40 (1300 super diesel ) regular,, which don't mention "friction modifiers" but  states on container -API CI-4PLUS  ?? does this mean  or have anything to do with  friction modifiers???
just thinking the mobil may be better oil for the bike   thanks and any other info from you folks is appreciated   west

    When I got my I/S I started with 15/40 Shell Rotella dino oil. Been on Mobil 1 15/50 full synthetic now for 50G+ miles. Gears are SOMEWHAT quieter. Lot of folks here with full sythetic oil(s) in their respective crankcases. RIDE SAFE.

That Castrol is fine oil.  I know other bikers that swear by diesel type oils too.  As long as the bottom half of the seal that is on the bottle is empty and doesn't say "energy conserving" It should be fine for your Valkyrie.

Damn I don't think these bikes will ever stop running if you change the oil regularly, I'm going on only 90,000 and change my oil every 3000 miles with 10w40 semi synthetic Lucas but all the top brand oils are good.

Yea I use synthetic also and change my 80K valk every 4-5K.. runs sweet!! cooldude
