My wheels are looking pretty dull with oxidization. I saw this guy
babbling about how miraculous Marvel Mystery Oil is for cutting through the crap and was wondering if anyone has tried it on aluminum wheels. I have 97, and the wheels are not clear coated so I thought I might give it a try -- on a inconspicuous area first. |

Some kind of carrier (mmo would do) and 1000 grit sandpaper would get started on
shining up your aluminum, more work and some 1500 sandpaper would get you
pretty far to a real shiny wheel.
I'd avoid the abrasive on the chrome, hard to say why mmo would do anything
special to chrome... we had a thread about what they make mmo out of recently...
Someone said it was "The product is composed of 74 percent mineral oil, 25 percent
stoddard solvent, and 1 percent lard".
That got me to look on their msds:
Mineral spirits, Napthenic Hydrocarbons and Chlorinated Hydrocarbons.... mmo msds...
Stoddard solvent is paint thinner, or Naptha, as my father used to call it...

I polished aluminum way way more than I ever want to remember, and the best I have ever used, hands down in Nuvite. Several different cuts to it and it will literally make a mirror out of aluminum.

Spun mine with a drill press, saw it on YouTube, I spent about 1 hour on each tire with sandpaper up to 1000 grit and some wd40, they came out pretty good. Of course you have to remove your tires off the bike but in the end the results were worth it.  |

Not sure what that guy was drinking, but I had some already and thought I'd give'er a try. Nothing to lose, right? What a bunch of crap! It's like anything else in my opinion. If you want to polish your aluminum, do like others have suggested here, buy a decent polish, get your elbows "greased", and go to work. No magic formula. I can tell you, all you'll do with Marvell Mystery Oil is waste money.

Boms Away is the best and fastest aluminum polish I've ever used (great on chrome too, and for burnt boot marks on pipes). And no greasy waxy paste that you have to rub forever to get off like Mothers, Eagle 1, and a dozen others (not that they don't work). And the Boms Away has a carnuba wax in it. And a little goes a long way. The very best shine I ever got was with multiple compounds and buff wheels on a high speed drill, but that took all day. And you get a lot of the buff wheel fuzz up your nose (until you go find a cloth respirator). Old2soon posted -how to make aluminum shine. When he was visiting , I let him use my Purple Polish. It is a two part system I use on my street rod. It works on brass ,aluminum and stainless.
I have a lot of cleaners and polishes that I have tried , but found this to be the best for hard to clean items. It also is long lasting.

It is a two part system. I have been using it for years. old2soon say's the polish will clean the haze off composite headlights. I have never tried . I am sure he will chime in.
