Was reading someones thread about alternators should be checked and cleaned every 50,000 miles or so. What are you guys doing and how many miles are we getting out of our alternators? Wouldn't be much fun to break down on a trip! Thanks

I take mine apart and blow the dust out at 50K or so. Usually just plan on new brushes at that time as well.

I think it was your thread I was reading. I have never soldered much, is it fairly straight forward on this application? Thanks

Just installed mine today, 41,105.3 miles, bought the gl1500 alt from ebay $130. now i can rebuild the old one as Chris does for $8 and some soldering.
