Well after several months of debate with myself, I have decided to sell my 1999 Tourer. Right now I have too many things going on in my life that don’t allow me to get the ride time in, in order to stay proficient. And without that it could be deadly one day.

I am not quitting the club or giving up on the Valk, just going to take a few years off from riding  and do some other hobbies that will let Paula and the boys join in at the same time, sailing. I recently became the new owner of the 22’ sailboat that my parents have owned since 1979, and now I am going to teach my family how to sail and all the enjoyment that it can offer. Some of my fondest memories are of spending the holidays out on Lake Texoma on the islands with the Venture Sailing Club of Dallas.

Paula and I decided once the boys are gone, at least out of high school, 6years, we will both go get new bikes and pick up where we left off. Paula has been without a bike for several years and is longing to get her own bike again, but with the boys growing like they are, she wants to wait until they are gone, legally, and then start riding again.

Every day I tell aircraft owners “That if you are not going to fly it. Then sell it!” The maintenance on a mechanical device is more on one that sits than one that gets used on a regular basis. I have made one 200 mile ride on the bike in the past 18 months, and that is not good. I have it here at my shop at the airport, and I don’t even have time to ride it around here. So for now the Valk must go, but when I am ready to ride again, I will be looking for an Interstate, unless Honda comes out with a new version of the Valk.

So with this being said, I am posting here first, that my Valk is for sale for $8500.00. I have a custom blue flame paint job, custom Carman Allen leather seats, Interstate gas tank, 150 watt stereo system, cruise control, CB hookup, trailer hitch, remote control blue LED lights all over the bike, new windshield, GIVI removable trunk with brake lights and luggage rack, forward controls for riders over about 6’3”, Mark T’s Mild to Wild exhaust system, with removable trombones and silencers, new Wolo air horn, All the chrome in every space allowed, Baker air wings, lower air deflectors on the forks, Cobra front floor boards, forward hwy pegs, LaMonster pull back risers, and much more. I currently have this bike insured with $15,000.00 worth of additional coverage to insure the accessories. That was only possible by meeting with an insurance person and verifying all the accessories on the bike and documenting it all. I also will sell a motorcycle jack, and the full MC cover and the bikini cover for the bike. I have about $500-$1000 worth of extra parts and accessories that will go with this bike.

This bike was a California bike, and now it has been de-smogged, and is a darkside bike with a GY Triple tread tire and an Avon Cobra on the front. The mileage on the bike is 51701.1. If you have any questions please email me at Charlesairo@ (remove this)sbcglobal.net, of call me at 214-893-9171.

Sorry to hear it Flyboy! That's a nice machine!

Need a Snark (styrofoam version of the Sunfish) for the kits to sail? I'm looking to sell mine...11'. Styrofoam. Can't be sunk. "Kool" sail (lateen rig). Easy to sail, fun as hell. Wet, a kid (properly instructed) can right it if flipped.

I can't tell you all the places I took that thing as a kid...

Sorry you're selling the Valk, but understand your family comes first, and I understand that sailing is a great way to spend time together.  My boss sails, as does his youngest son and his kids.  They compete.  The boss still has a boat on Texoma, and tries to sail often.  I hope your kids take to it like ducks to water.

While making our plans for the Ghost ride to east Texas, Lori asked me who all was going from this area.  We went over the list of Valkers from around here and that's when she asked me if you and yours ever go on the 'rides'.  I told her the last time you and I talked that you said you were juggling your time with work and family and that you were very involved with your kid's activities and couldn't seem to find enough hours in the day for everything.

We understand and appreciate your choice.

Hopefully you'll still be a 'lurker' and follow the shinanigans of the club.. and inject a few lines from time to time.

I'm especially going to miss the BAR-B-Q run to Charles' house after a wrench party Embarrassed.

Stay in touch and enjoy your new directions.

Tom

Just because I dont have the bike does not mean that I can't still fix some BBQ for the club. I think I said something to the group that came up on Memorial day that I would cook for all the DFW Club one day, and that offer still stands. We can still wrench if a location that will hold a couple 100 of so bikes is needed. I love this club and the members that make it up. I could no more disown this group of people, and I could disown my parents.

Don't forget, I haven't sold the bike yet. In this economy, it may never sell.

Well, heck. There goes the neighborhood! If you are not going to be riding, FlyBoy, I am going to sell my Valk too.

It will take a little more effort now, but i look forward to keeping up with you and your family, Charles. It will be a long time before any of us forget this ride, eh! Back when the boys where little and cute. Got over that!

The memory of your last BBQ will only hold for a short while, SailorBoy! Hey to the fam. ~Jeff
