One thing bugs me about "Desmog"
«

My girl is getting Old by now and I was thinking of re-rubbering or Desmoging.
I did a search on "Desmog" and got 21 pages of related topics.
What bugs me is this: What the Honda engineers / designers were thinking when adding all those extra tubes and stuff that are totally unnecessary and also reduce reliability according to Desmogers.
Were they crazy or what?

I have not desmogged but I want to. The engineers followed whatever air quality regulations that were in place that year. Does it pollute less ....who knows. Does it hurt the performance .. Probably . My bike runs good the only problem is a little backfire on desellerating . Cobra pipes and I'm willing to put up with it because I love the cobras. Less places for vacuum leaks cleaner look is I think why Most people desmog.

My guess is they did it to comply with EPA regulations.

The smog stuff probably reduces pollution at idle and cold starts.

The smog PAIR valve operation has no effect on HP. It pumps fresh air to the exhaust to complete combustion of unburned fuel. Remember these bikes like to run a bit rich.

If every bit of the smog had been metal pipe, it might have lasted as long as our bikes. Desmog is mainly just getting rid of rotting, cracking rubber, and leaks.

That helmet looks pretty sturdy, but doesn't it limit your vision?
