My 13 1/2 year old dog, Bear, just had a 90 second seizure. Lots of running whilst lying on his side, drooling and wide eyed staring. He's recovered OK and the vet says to bring him back when he has another.

I guess the old boy will be sleeping downstairs now, can't risk him falling down the stairs.

Gotta go, gnat in eye.

So sorry to hear, Britman. Our Golden used to go through grand mal siezures once in awhile. Most sickening feeling in the world to be completely helpless to do anything about them. Thoughts are with you. Cry

We've got a 110 pound Doberman that has those... We're spending $100 a month on meds to stop 'em... The meds are expensive, but he hasn't had one since we started 'em, and he was having 30 minute+ grand mal's before we knew better (As in, 5 minutes or longer is major emergency time)

Good luck! It's not fun watching 'em, and as was stated, knowing there's not a thing you can do other than give 'em room...

Sorry... when Bonnie shows signs of age it make me feel better to think about how lucky she is to be loved, vetted,
fed with the good stuff and played with. Bear is a lucky dog to live with you...

My JRT Rusty died of cancer, showed as a bulge in the nose area. He had seizures from it and I know how hard it can be to watch your friend go through this. My vet said Rusty was not aware of what was going on when this happened and I found it easier to deal with after that (At least i do not think the vet was lieing to me). God bless you and your friend during this trying time.

Well the poor old boy had another. I'm just back from the vets. Apart from the seizures he's strong like a bull.

He's on 1/2 grain of pheno barb twice a day. Blood work results tomorrow.

Well I gave him his fisrt phenobarb pill over 2 hours ago and he's now sleeping calmly. I should imagine he's also worn out after muscle spasming twice for a total of over 6 minutes

The old boy had a very calm night, no more incidents.

Pheno barb has knocked him 50% out.

Happy to hear he had no further episodes.   cooldude

Hope you are able to work with the vet to get the dosage to the right point to prevent further incidents, yet doesn't leave him so "knocked out."
