Is this strong enough? I cut a slot in the back to slip over the bag guard.

It looks good but if it falls off, it wasn't strong enough. PS: I don't own an IS.

Mine is in the same place but with a HD clamp to an aftermarket Firestick.

Cannot see how that mounts.

I drilled 2 holes through the guard. And cut a slot in the back to go over the guard.

I have my antenna mounted in the same area, but not to the saddlebag rail, it's mounted to the saddlebag splash guard with a extended steel plate to bring it out pass the guard...as far as strenght go's you should have no worry, my set up would be weaker then yours and I have no problem...drilling thru that saddlebag rail couldn't have been easy... Thanks, that makes me feel better. It feels plenty strong enough. Drilling wasn't difficult. Just use an sharp bit and go slow and easy.

When I added a radio to my Tourer, i didn't want the typical mast on the rear.  I went with a powered antenna that is across the windshield...

Just finished installing my powered antenna under the fairing. So far, so good. Too bad it's cold, rainy, windy and all-around crappy outside today or I could see if reception was affected.
