Show the drivers the results of a real accident, not a staged one. Let them hear the real screams and cries for help. Stop sugar coating it, maybe it would have some lasting impression on them. This is from a 30 year fire/rescue volunteer. I can close my eyes and forget what I have seen, but can never get the screams and cries out of my head.

I can't even imagine what you and others in your line of work see as part of your job. I have heard texting is worse than driving drunk.

At least a drunk is trying hard not to crash, while a texter isn't paying any attention at all.

All drivers should be given this "shock" therapy to make them think about their actions while driving.
Using a cell phone is bad enough, but TEXTING ?? Unbelievably dangerous. I've also seen makeup being applied while talking on the cell phone. Everytime I've noticed someone driving with "jerky" actions, they have been on a cell phone.
Time to shut up and drive!

Everyone who text messages while driving should see this. Show this to a cell phone user you care about. Texting While Driving PSAWe just watched that with our 17 year old daughter and all cried, she knows that is forbiden in our home. That should be a requirement for kids to see befor they can get there license. And the sad part is is that you see more and more adults doing it!

It always amazes me that people have that much to talk about that they have to be on the cell phone while driving, walking, bicycling, etc. What is so important? Make the call before or after, not during.

That should be a requirement for kids to see befor they can get there license. Sadly, the shock value doesn't work for long. Our school required that we all had to watch movies about accidents before we could get our permit. It was real life auto accidents and victims. All the screaming, blood guts and gore were real, not staged. I can still hear the woman screaming as she was being loaded on to a back board to this day. But sadly it has very little lasting affect on teens, because that could never happen to them, they are sure they can do it "safely".

It is so easy to critisize for texting or phoneing while driving. But what we need to stress is that texting should not be done by just anbody. Those who drive and text need to practice, practice, and practice even more.

I'll probally be the only one, but I admit to doing it. Have done it a time or 2, even on my scoot. Heck even made a call or 2. Last time I recall was a summer or 2 ago. So its not like I do it all the time. Now I will check for missed call when i'm riding. Esp with a hit and miss signal. Believe it or not I have called the ER with pt reports many a times while driving the ambulance. So there are times it is neccesary. We (partner &I ) seldom do if we are driving and we are both up front. We will switch if one of us needs to make a call. There was a bad wreck a few years ago when a dude text his GF. He ran a sign and went under a semi trailer. Rumor is she got his text after she found out he died. Spooky!
