Hello everyone, I had been noticing more brake pedal travel needed to really use the rear brake over this past year. I mentioned this at the Honda dealership. He strongly suggested a rebuild of the master cylinder. So I had him order the rebuild kit. This was my good Friday project. I followed the Clymer manual, which by the way showed the correct number of rubber cups on the piston verses the Honda manual. I was surprised at the glue like gunk on the spring and in the bottom near the connection. I had to use a small screw driver to lightly remove the majority of the gunk and isopropyl alcohol and lint free rags to remove the rest. Flushed and dried the body with alcohol and compressed air and reassembled per the directions. Flushed the entire rear brake line and caliper with new fluid.

The rear pedal is more responsive now at the top of the stroke verses further down. Well worth the time and money to have this piece of mind knowing that the rear brake is back.

What, no pictures?

How was the fluid, like was it maintained/changed out, and this is gunk that was fouling things up from over time?

I regularly change the fluid, it was done last spring when I noticed the travel distance of the pedal increasing. Most of my driving is city and back country roads. The rubber seal on the piston was half covered with a thin aluminum looking film. Although the cylinder looked brand new. This on a 97 standard. I have not been able to post pictures for a while after up dating this laptop. I hate computers. This makes me think about rebuilding the caliper anyway.
