I'm worth a million in prizes!

« on: August 26, 2009, 09:43:29 AM »

I just purchased some J&M headsets. I am experiencing some very noticable electronic engine whine thorough the earphones. I called J&M but their response was what I expected. "Have the electronics on the bike checked". I have used earbuds for years and have never experienced this noise. If I can't resolve this the headsets are going back.
Has anybody else dealt with this?

What's your audio/cb source suppling the J&M headsets?

If the whine changes with the motor RPM, most likely the problem is a bad capacitor on the alternator.  The capacitor is that black cube attached on the outside of the alternator and is only on the I/S to suppress the whine caused by the alternator.

If the whine is constant, then you have a different issue. tickedoff

I had the same problem with mine until I realized I was turning up the intercom volume and not the master volume.

Once I read the manual all was good.   Wink

I suspect a "ground loop isolator" would remedy the whine if it's not the intercom vol./master vol. thing as mentioned. Ground loop isolators are generally plug-'n-play. I wouldn't know how to tie it into your OE audio system, but I'm sure it could be done.
A car audio installer should be able to help.

Do you have a Kisan SignalMinder on your Interstate?  Do your turn signals turn off automatically? Plenty have decide just to remove the Kisan SignalMinder to get ride of the retched whining noise.

I have heard that if you turn the volume all the way off for your wife's mic the whining noise stops.

Well, No signal minder, and the whine increases with RPM. I must say that I have to turn up the Intercom volume to 15 to be able to communicate clearly at speed. Obviously the whine disappears with the volume lower but so do the voices. Does that volume level seem unusual?
