hi

I Live South of Daytona.  I posted, I bought a 1997 Valkrie Trike.  It need some work.  I had a mechanic look at it today.  Looks like it needs starter clutch work along with forks, seats and other parts.  I bought a 1998 that needed motor work as a parts bike.   I will need to order the Starter Clutch parts and I figure while working on it I should have the timing belts done.  Any suggestion of any other preventative maintenance or repairs I should look at into prior to pulling it out of the shop.  Any suggestion where to order starter clutch parts and timing belts, the dealers are a little pricy.

Thank john

Welcome to the Fl. board.  Good luck on getting it going.  There are some folks on the board close to you that probably wouldn't mind helping you or doing the work for you.  Just ask if you need help rather than taking it to the dealer, I think you are doing it yourself but not sure.

I'm a bit concerned re. the "starter clutch" issue. Does the bike start and run? If not, what's happening? Reason I ask is that's not something I've heard of more than a couple times in 15 years....and it wasn't the problem in the end. Give us a little more info before you start throwing money at it. Re. the '98, what is the issue with that?

Being as the starter does not have a clutch, big concern.

Welcome aboard.
You might search the forums for "hydrolock".  Starter clutch sounds fishy.

Sounds Like Hydro-Lock Damage To Me. You Will Find Out What Needs To Be Replaced After Dis -Assembly. Most Of The Time It Is The Starter Drive Gear, The Idler Gear ,And The Rear Engine /Clutch Housing. I Have Repaired Two Of These In The Past Few Months .

Right after he posted this on the Florida forum he posted a duplicate in the tech section of the main forum as well. Think John helped him over there. Maybe we will hear from him when he gets it running.........
