My front forks were rough.  chrome was peeling and I was afraid they wouldn't clamp down safely.  So we swapped them out.  It seemed easier to swap the whole unit out.  Once they were swapped out we found out that the forks on the trike had extra rake.  John from Orlando was great and answered a lot of my questions and thought it was probably necessary for handling.  Has anyone ridden a Valkrie trike or know if the rake is necessary.

Thanks for any feed back

John, the extra rake isn't necessary but sure is helpful when steering a trike. As we discussed on the phone, whenever the trike conversion was done, the owner at the time probably had one of the many available raked triple tree kits installed. It's not a necessity, but makes handling much less tiring. You can use the triple trees that were on the trike, just swap out the forks if they're peeling as you mentioned.

I agree for a trike it helps with steering I have 6 degrees with a roadsmith, back roads get a little tough after awhile. will eventually be changing to 8 degrees.

Wait a minute you thought it would be easier to remove the entire triple tree than to just slip the fork tubes out.  That just seems crazy to me. Remove the wheel, the fender and then its just a few pinch bolts and theyre out.......slip the new ones in.

To each his own I guess

I might be wrong but it might be possible that the forks came with the raked triple trees might have extensions inside the forks.

If planning on using the raked triple trees then I would check for the extensions and move them over to the new forks.
