Hey all,
To those who are using a modular helmet I'm wondering what you're doing for anti-theft. My Nolan N104 does not have a traditional chin strap, it has a ratchet type system and nothing to attach a lock. I've been thinking of a thin coated cable looped through the chin area w the visor in the open position but I'm afraid of scratching or damaging the helmet.
The owners manual for the helmet doesn't have any info for anti-theft so I thought I'd reach out to the group.
Thanks,
Mike

Big Bike Parts sells a helmet lock that replaces the clutch screw pin with a post. It comes with a lock for about $12. I've been using one for 10 years with no problems and no lost helmets.

When I'm worried/concerned, I take it with me. Often wear it right in to 711s and such (people shoot those places up often enough anyway).
But I can lock my DOT half (though I rarely do). Mine costs $125.
While not foolproof, a zipper bag big enough to hold it (and hide it) tied down in back might suffice (maybe with a little padlock on the zipper).
Grabbing and walking off is one thing, but having to take the time to fiddle around to steal something is often enough prevention (for short periods in daylight).

I use a gun lock to lock it to the crash bars for my girlfriends modular helmet.

Just hang mine on the mirror and don't worry about it.

I'm in the same camp as Bighead and Jess, although neither of my helmets are now worth much of anything (and outdated by current standards). Back when the helmets were newer, I used a cheap cable lock. Will not defeat a determined thief, but keeps opportunistic thieves honest. There is also a helmet cable under the seat (with instructions in the owner's manual) that I have never used.

Nolan sells these for $10.00 each, they are skinny enough to fit the ratchet Or get 2 of these for $7.99 and 5 minutes on a grinder you can make them fit the Nolan ratchet clip. Even after the modification they still work on "D ring" helmets Dave

same here, I use my free gun lock (my local and some other police depts. will give you a few free if you ask and they have some in stock that is) with about a 6-7" at most long cable and use it to secure anything I don't want stolen, more than just cycle helmets or guns (even bicycles, etc.). Just don't loose the key! Or, if not long enough cable, go buy a bicycle chain lock with combo, just don't loose the combination (or key)

Pardon me if I misunderstand this, but isn't that what trunks and saddle bags are for. If you don't have them, carry it with you.

I'm with these guys. Takes a real low life p.o.s. to walk off with a mans helmet. I try to retain jus' the slimmest glimmer of faith in humanity, (though it is harder to do these days ).

More often than not , I lay mine on the tank or seat and walk away.... unless Im going to be away for a long time and even then i still might leave it depending on the area.... I won't however leave my phone on the bike for a second. Ive never had anything disturbed when left on the bike.
But like Hydro Lock and Flaming Death from the Darkside......
Has anyone ever had a helmet stolen?????

If I am only going into a fast food place for a quick bite, just leave my helmet on the left mirror with its radio cable attached. If I am going to be gone a long time and don't trust the area, I put the helmet in the trunk. So far no one has wanted my helmet nor jacket which I lay over the seat.

I really don't worry at all someone will steal my helmet to actually use it. Very few actual riders would do that to someone, even for a high dollar Shoei, Schuberth, Arai.
The worry is someone takes it just because she/he can, and gets a good laugh at you being stuck with no way legally home without one. Even to cut off the locked chin strap, making it worthless to anyone. The word for this is..... punk.

I have the pins sandy mentioned and an n104 slide the pin through the loop behind the ratchet lock it with a small master lock. And from experience they walk off the mirror

They're a little "twitchy" 'round here 'bout head gear (you'd think you walked into the bank), & by the way, don't park headed out. They think you're preppin' for a quick getaway.

Who has ever had a helmet stolen?
I have never had that happen.
Mine are so greasy and nasty inside, I can't imagine anyone trying to wear one
after I had it on my head.
Of course you have the geography difference, New Jersey.
Down here in the south we don't have a lot of helmet thieves.

My Nolan didn't have "D" rings either. It had the seatbelt type latch so it wouldn't work with the "D" ring keepers I put into my leatherlyke saddlebags. But, I was able to just close and lock the saddlebag lid down with the helmet strap pinned under the lid. I'm sure if someone had pulled hard it would have pulled through but it never happened.
