Hi
I've got what I assume is a buggered handlebar kill switch on a 98 Standard and am a long ways from home. Is there a simple way to disable the kill switch so I can start the bike and run it ?

I can't help with the kill switch bypass but have never heard of one going bad . You might want to check the kick stand safety switch  lean angle safety , neutral  switch , clutch safety switch .

Spray some contact cleaner or WD40 in the cracks around the kill switch and work the switch rapidly while doing it. This may get you home.

I know it's late, but symptoms?

How do you know it is the kill switch. Very few of us actual use it, and therefore it never goes wrong. Clutch handle, kick stand, starter switch, now these all cause problems.

Much more likely to be the starter button causing issues. Dirty/melted contacts are the most likely cause of starter switch failure.

Pop open the switch and clean/check the contacts.
