Seen allot of talk about Dynabeads and I know absolutely nothing about them.
Do they work for real, or is this snake oil?
Who's using them?
Can I remove my valve core and install them myself?
Where do you buy these little suckers?
Better than weights?
Do they wear the inside of your tire down?
Motorcycle specific? Can you use them in your car/truck?

Well, I just googled it and answered my questions accept who's using them. Any testimonials here?

They be workin, no snake oil, I use em now, yes pour em in valve stem, but I hear the 90 degree stems are time consuming,I think I bought mine at jake Wilson site where I got the 90 degree metal stems, I watched the tire guy yesterday spin balance after he finished just for his own curiosity and they spun out perfect, 3 zeros on his computer graph...

So if those things worked wouldn't all the cars and trucks have them installed from the factory?  Just to qualify my raised eyebrow response I have never used them.  But if you had told me years ago that you could spray hydrogen peroxide on love bugs and they would dissolve the old eyebrow probably would have been raised then too.  Roll Eyes

Used them in both front & rear tires of my '99 Valkyrie. Smooth well past 100 mph.  Wink cooldude

Will use them again!

Thanks guys cooldude

Has anyone noticed the correcting of any out of balance vibrations that weights couldn't fix by using the beads?

The reason I ask, I have a bad vibration at 58mph and at 70 mph in my truck. There's a ton of weights on that wheel. When I rotate my tires it vibrates you out of the truck. I've had them balanced and rebalanced. New tires and still there, apparently the wheel.

Doug

Adding the beads can be a pain especially if there is moisture in the tire.  I usually set the tire in the sun with the valve core out for an hour to dry out the stem.  Helps reduce clumping.  There is a tube (clear thick wall) that you screw onto the valve stem.  I fill it half way from the dispenser and give it a puff of compressed air from the compressor.  Then carefully allow the pressure out, the beads will sometimes blow back out if you add to much air or release the small amount of air you just put in to fast.  10 minutes and done.

Some are now using ceramic airsoft beads that must be added when mounting the tires (they are to large for the valve stem).  Much cheaper and they won't jam the valve open if a stray bead flies out during pressure adjustments.  They sell valves that block this, I don't use them.

I also tried beads in the truck tires and when I would get the free rotations they would try to balance them and added weights all over the rim.  Seems they created issues for the machines, and tire tech's are not usually very smart.  When they gave up and asked me whats up I just had them peal off the weights mount the tires and I drove off.  Finally got tired of it convinced the tech the tires were bad and got new tires under warranty.  The proud tech felt he solved a serious problem while I got 4 new tires after 20K miles on the previous set for the cost of mounting and balancing.

You did good Gil!! I have them in the front and rear as well and tires feel ultra-smooth at all speeds, which for me is seldom north of 75.

Doug I've not used them on a tire that had trouble balancing, so can't answer to that. I do have them front and rear (CT) on the Valk. Very smooth ride with 10k on them. No issues cooldude

I Have Been Using Then For Several Years And They Seem To Work Great. I Purchase Mine In Bulk Off Of E-Bay, This Way I Get The Best Price. Some Time I Pour Them Into The Tire , Because Like Others Have Said They Can Be A Pain  To Get In Through The Valve Stem. I Heard That One Of The Local Honda Dealers Is Using Them To Balance All Of Their Tires.

Only issue with pouring them into the tire is bead seal. Rather see the tire fully seated and do it the slow way.

When I bought my dynabeads they told me that I could just throw it in the tire bag and all when it was getting mounted and the bag would break open after the first 50ft or so. My tire was already installed so I had to spend half an hour feeding them through the 90 degree stem, but I was skeptical anyway. Has anyone tried throwing the bag in? I would be concerned about how long it would take them to all shake out and me free moving instead of one big lump tangled in the remnants of a plastic bag.

No reason why that wouldn't work. Also no reason to throw sever more ounces of beads in then necessary.
I do know that is how the semi tires are done. Just throw the bag in there and go.

It's OK to throw the bag in. When I put them in through the valve stem I use one of the old electric engravers. Set it on highest setting, hold it against the valve core and let the vibration move the little beads right along.

Hey Doug,  I used them for awhile and they did just fine.   If you would like to give them a try I have some you can have, just let me know.. Only issue would be if you did not like them you will have to remove the tire, break it down and wipe the little sucker out.   Let me know.

Hi Dave,
Good to see your still around, been quite a while. Do you still have your Valkyrie? I may take you up on that as I will be replacing my front tire soon.

I have used then for the last 2 tires, didnt notice any difference from when I had dealer spin balance. To install I just leave them in the little lite plastic bag they come in and toss it in after 1 side of tire is mounted and then mount other side, inflate and done. Also where I work we do use beads to balance most of the tires on new fire trucks.

Hi Doug,  Still kicking.   Still riding the Valk, just something about the old girl.  Just let me know when you want them and we can meet up for a cup of coffee.   Might think about trying them in the old tire just in case you do not like them.  In any event, hope all good with you and your family.

Take care, see you soon.

Bringing up an older thread to add my recent Dyna Beads experience. Since adding them to a front Metz they impressed me enough to buy a bulk bag 16oz. for future use. I didn't see any fine print or know that beads came in a larger size, well they do and I was concerned about using these in a M/C tire as the bag said "Commercial, Offroad, RV" but searched and couldn't find a bad word about them only that they made a bigger size so as not to get stuck in the valve. O.K. I will take one for the team and give them a whirl. However the Ol days are gone and I don't have that triple beam scale hiding in the closet, top shelf in a shoe box anymore so I used the pill bottle as a weight management system. Now the 1,2, and 3oz. marks where made using the small beads but I used the 3oz. line for the amount of larger beads I put in the back Metz yesterday and 2oz. of what I had left of smaller beads in the front Metz. The Tech was impressed how they spun perfect on his machine and after I got home noticed he hadn't taken the old weights off the rim ? I removed the weights and after getting her all assembled went for the smoothest test drive I ever had. She is SMOOTH. So be not afraid of the larger bead if encountered

Have heard of some buying the Airsoft ceramic balls (8MM maybe) at WalMart and using them.  They can only be added when the wheel is mounted. All reports were good concerning their long term use.

Another thing is Napa sells balance beads.
