Author Topic: stainless steel engine hanger set  (Read 1494 times)

Hi Guys
has anyone fitted the 4 piece stainless steel engine hanger sets, just brought one and realised it looks like you have to relocate the seat lock into one of the stainless panels, I have seen on the board that the centre panel lugs are easy to break and wondered how much of a mission it is to fit the set[should have checked prior to buying but they were a reasonable price so I took a chance]

From the top picture, in the link below, it looks like the seat lock set is moved to the left side cover, just below the petcock knob.  You could not get at the lock if it was not moved.  You also could not get to a manual Pringle petcock if you have one of those installed...

that's what putting me off fitting the kit it looks like a mission to move the seat lock, I will see once it arrives but if its not  too much hassle to actually fit and remove the stainless cover I may well just find something suitable to cover the hole and leave the lock behind the cover

Don't let that stop you. It's easy = one clip to move behind the seat lock.

The only hard part is connecting the cable to the lock, so if you can move the lock without disconnecting the cable you're golden.

Thanks for your input guys received the kit and instructions seem simple enough, although one last concern is you need to swap the engine hanger bolts over hopefully there is no possibility of the engine moving

One last question[hopefully] does the bank angle sensor need to be relocated because it appears to clash with the right side carb cover,

bank angle sensor isn't anywhere near the carbs. it's located behind the center cover under the seat. so what are you referring to.

my mistake, there is an electrical switch of some sort to the right hand side of the ignition switch and bolted/screwed to the end of the carb bank, Mine is a uk bike so I am not sure if it differs from the American one but it looks like whatever the switch is and does it probably needs disconnecting prior to me installing the engine covers

If you have a switch where you describe, I doubt that it is original equipment...

I have seen it on other bikes I just have no idea what it does, it is bolted on with what looks like anti tamper bolts just below the carb cable and on the end of the carb bank

Is there not a European model service manual?

I'm thinking along the lines of some emission devise.

Maybe also a fiche somewhere. I see some sites that are very specific and want VIN # and where it is, but can't remember which one it is.

It is fitted as standard to all European bikes. It is a position sensor and feeds a signal to the ECU. It should not be removed from a European spec bike unless you are prepared to do some rewiring.

I couldn't find it in my manual and I don't want to tamper with the wiring as my bike is running well and not prepared to risk that for some extra bling
