Does the carb bowl o-ring need sealant when reassembled?
Mine had sealant when I took them apart.
the honda manual does not say anything about it in their carb section.
I put the o-rings in dry and bench tested all carbs in the rack and with no leaks.
What do you think?
Thanks for your help

Hey saddlebag, I put mine together without any sealant and have never had a problem.......... but

disclaimer; may not be appropriate in all circumstances.

The only thing I do with them is to lubricate the o-rings with grease prior to installation.

All I did was a bit of grease as well.  Never had a problem.

And the grease was added for what reason? To hold the o-ring in place, or to allow it to move/position when the parts placed together?

Sometimes a touch of sealant at the corners maybe used to hold the gasket in please during reassembly.

I always glue the new float bowl gasket in just like Honda does. I also use the special glue that Honda uses too. I have never had any problems with that and I have done over 600 sets of Valkyrie carbs. Do what Honda does and you won't go wrong

I'm surprised the Honda manual says nothing about this sealant/glue when reassembling.

Do you think it's more for the ease of mating the parts (with o-ring glued to bowl) or
does it need the sealant for a more effective seal?
Thanks

The bowl gasket kit from Redeye mentions using a high tack gasket sealant. I bought a small can at NAPA and it worked great to hold the gaskets in place. I only did it on one side so if the next time I have to remove the bowls the gaskets will hopefully not get damaged.

3m product called Scotch-Weld #847. I think the only reason that Honda uses this is to hold the gasket in place while installing the float bowl. It is only applied to the bowl itself not the carb.
Note:  this is the same glue that they use on the valve covers.
