The adapters I bought said 7/8" to 1" but when installed, the 1" Valk bars were loose. Turns out they adapted to 1 1/8". Had to cut a couple strips of aluminum and wrap around the bars where the clamps are, they're plenty solid now. The "new" bars look great on there with the Valk tank. Started to clean/polish the left side controls and the turn signal lever didn't feel right so I took it all apart. Turns out the little plastic block with all the wires attached had one end busted off. It's the block that has the  left/right signal contacts on it and a little white block slides back and forth over those contacts. I then remembered I have an I/S left side control with a busted turn sig. lever so pulled it apart and it's all intact. I transferred the signal lever to it, lubed a bit and it works fine. Now all I have to do is change the plug on the end from the long flat green one to the square purple 9-pin. It's the same wires, just a different connector. I have all the stuff to make up new terminals to slip into the connector, in fact I have new connectors if needed. Next step will be to adapt the Valk controls to the 1200 harness, shouldn't be a big deal. Figure if I can adapt Harley controls to the Valk harness, this should be a piece of cake....if you like cake.  Wink  Now all I need is to pick up some new grips once the controls are in place. Will see if I can adapt the 1200 throttle cables to the Valk right side control. Everything is possible I guess. Already have the m/c and the rebuild kits, just need to pick up the hydraulic lines from J&P Cycles, will be SS lines throughout. Once this is done, then I'll rebuild the forks and front calipers. By then I should be able to see the light at the end of the tunnel, assuming it's not a train......

UPDATE: Got the Valk bars mounted and the Valk controls adapted to the 1200 harness. Except for the run and turn signals which are standard for most Hondas, none of the other wire colors matched. I ended up completely emptying the 9-pin connectors on both controls and starting from scratch, taking one circuit at a time. The start circuit on the right side was kinda tricky but it works now. It involved having both schematics laying side by side to compare functions of the different wires, then inserting the pins in the connector. The only circuit I can't check yet is the turn signals but the run lights are powered and the proper light goes off when you hit the turn sig. button. I really like the looks of the heavier bars and the controls. Another stroke of luck....the throttle cables fit and screw into the right side control. You can see them hanging down, not fully engaged at the moment, neither is the choke cable on the left side.

SPECIAL NOTE FOR EDDIE: The one control you had marked as having a bad kill switch....wasn't. Just took a good dosing of elec. parts cleaner sprayed in there, work the sw. a few times, hit it again, work it some more and all's well. With the meter it works fine, and when the engine is running it will kill it as designed.  cooldude

Unless I see something I simply can't afford to pass up, I'm going to leave this one in place for the time being. The reason it's puffing smoke is partly due to rings not seated on the left side and you can't really seat them just running it in the garage. It needs to be run, some hard acceleration and deceleration, that presses the rings against either side of the cylinder and helps break them in. You just don't get that sitting in the garage and goosing the throttle from time to time. There's no load on the engine with that.

Feel free to come by any time, call first to make sure I'm here.  cooldude

Spent part of the day wiring up the left controls. Still have some repairs to do on the wiring the p/o messsed up, he must have been a butcher in another life, he was an idiot in this one. Some people should never be turned loose with wire cutters. When the repairs are done, I can then finish the left side wiring. It's been a slow process and a bit of a head scratcher at times. I'd go fishing for a wire, only to find it had been cut back flush to the harness wrap. Why....I'll neve know.

Progress.   You have to love it. Quite a few hours chasing parts and when you finally get them they still need to be customized to fit the project. It's good that you are a patient man John.

Really looking forward to seeing this one up and running. cooldude
