Just in case some of you don't know..Hondas HATE ethanol...and so does this rider who owns them....

The Valk is no different...

For awhile now...I've been using either Stabil or Weber ethanol fuel conditioner products in my bikes to increase HP and keep the fuel system clean...

I thought that maybe the Valk with it's fuel injected engine might be exempt from this..but I was wrong...

While riding yesterday in Wi., I came across a Cenex gas station that actually offered ethanol free gas...

This is the first time I've seen this since 05' in Tn...

I immediately filled my tank with it...and yes...the bike ran even smoother with a noticeable increase in HP (roughly 3%)...

I really HATE ethanol...but in my part of the state corn belt politics rule...god I hate that crap!

Same here on carb 1500's.  For years, I had to go almost to WV to get non ethanol, but months back a station 40 miles out began carrying it (really jacked up the price though).  Butt dynos are not worth much, but my bikes run much better, and mileage goes up too.

My lawnmower, weed wacker, blowers, chipper, power washer, generator carburetors all dislike ethanol.  I more than dislike it.  Congress should drink it.

TOTALLY agree my friend!! cooldude  It took me YEARS to figure it out with my last bike (carb/Shadow Sabre 1100)..I kept wondering why the bike ran so good after storing it with Stabil in the gas...thought it was all in my head...Then I went to Deal's Gap in Tn...and ran 'dragon fuel'...which doesn't have ethanol...and the bike ran great...DEFINITELY more power man...came home and noticed how it ran 'meh' again with local gas...I FINALLY put two and two together! Cheesy Then I started buying ethanol fuel conditioner products...and the good run returned ALTHOUGH it still isn't quite as good as pure ethanol free fuel...  You're right..congress SHOULD drink that crap...I mean how much longer are we going to allow these bozos to infringe on our life!!

I use corn-free gas whenever I can.  This website has a very complete list of stations that sell it:  http://pure-gas.org

Station half a block from my house sells Ethanol free.  Grin Grin
Of course it's 25 cents a gal higher but for a little over a dollar a tank, it's sure worth it.  cooldude

I ride regularly enough that whether gas has ethanol or not is irrelevant.  Even my wife's Yamaha Warrior sits for months at a time and it has never had an issue.  If it were carbed I'd say it makes more of a difference since the carb bowls are vented.  The gas easily evaporates from them and of course gunks up the jet.  The only time I've ever seen a fuel injected vehicle have a problem with ethanol gas was a small displacement four wheeler (I think I was a 350 or 400).  It gunked up the tip of the injector nozzle after it sat for about a year.  It wouldn't atomize the gas enough to fire over.

This is all just based on my experiences but I've never lived in "ethanol paranoia" and I've never had a problem.

Local station just started carrying ethanol free, but it's 91 octane and quite a bit more expensive. Cheaper for me to run a little Star-tron in my regular 87 octane.

Ha.... it's no where here in the south.  I'd say it's about 50/50 here.  National chains around here generally have ethanol gas, mom and pop places usually don't.

Paranoia?? No, experience and enlightenment cooldude  Seriously, the difference in run quality is obvious, so obvious that if you couldn't tell the difference you'd have to be dead..my experience anyway...

Here in Australia ethanol fuel is a rarity. Our lowest grade unleaded is 91. I run my Valk on 98.

I've never noticed a difference but I don't watch my mileage either.  As far as performance goes, not even one bit different.  Once again, that's just me.  I'd prefer no ethanol fuel just because I don't like the idea of ethanol in my gas.

I tried and tried to find a report on how much 10% ethanol gas differs from 100% gasoline but I couldn't find anything.  Lots of stuff about losing a small amount of MPG's but nothing about the output of the engine.  I'd like to see some reports on it if anyone finds it.

Grin The truth is ethanol goes bad faster because of the alcohol. if you use it up quickly, you should be ok with a slight power difference. I use it when no other choice is available, but putr gas is my first choice if available

Interesting discussion. Bought a new VTX in 05. Appears it had a bad electric fuel pump. Didn't tolerate the ethenol very well froze up in 3 yrs. Cost me 400. To replace it. Got a discount at Honda Direct. Otherwise 600 bucks. Bitch to install. I run recreational fuel in my boat, mower and weed trimmer. Made me a beleiver after pumping 2 gal. Of water out of my boat tank and replacing weed trimmers every year. Recreational fuel is available everywhere here. New Sam's carries it 3.34 gal I believe right new. New WaWa here in the cape someone told me they carry it for less than 3 bucks. Have to check that out? Haven't tried it in my new Valkyrie yet will have to give it a try. A lot of winter residents.I talked to who ride switch to it on last few tanks before heading north for summer and storing there bikes till fall. Been trying to get Gas Buddy app to list it as well. So far no luck.

Even the 10% ethanol gas doesn't seem to good bad fast in fuel injected vehicles.  The Warrior I have would sit for months, get rode a bit, sit for months, get rode a bit.  I bet it took me six months to go through a tank of gas in it.  Never had any problems.  Although it could be a coincidence that I put non ethanol gas in it when it was filled up.  I fill up at whatever gas station is close when the fuel light comes on so there's no way to know in that particular tank

What octane is everyone running.  I can get ethanol free at a few places around me.  Manual says at lease 86 octane.  Is anyone running premium in their valk?  Notice a difference?
Thanks!

Currently I am running premium fuel so the octane rating is probably around 92 octane.  However, it is really not needed...  regular 87 octane or so is all that is required.  The reason I run premium now is because there is a gas station just north of me that sells it without ethanol.  You will not really notice any difference is performance with higher octanes above the recommended minimum, but you will notice a favorable difference in both HP and fuel economy without ethanol cooldude

Mandates of ethanol usage do not expire until 2022!  tickedoff.......

It's going to get worse.  The corn growers are about to shove more ethanol down our tanks.  To help them out the EPA has approved E15, and it will be showing up at some gas stations soon.

U know current studies suggest that Ethanol pollutes the air more then petrol based fuels!  Mandates will end eventually...and I have to admit that I am seeing more gas stations offer ethanol free blends...you just got to get the hell out of Illinois...this state sucks.

I'm an AMA member and went to the issues page on their website.  They have a link to ask your congressman via email to support the RFS Reform Act of 2015.  Does anyone know if this legislation is still current?  It seems like the website might need an update.
