« on: May 27, 2015, 07:24:12 AM »

I just picked up my new 2014 Honda Valkyrie and love it so far.

I got a nice 15 inch windshield installed on it that I thought others might like. Gustafsson makes a 5 inch, 8 inch, and a 15 inch windshield that goes on the Valkyrie using the Honda Boulevard windscreen mounting brackets.

I rode my Valkyrie 1,100 miles from FL to OH with the windshield and I love it. At 5'9, at 50 MPH or below I get no wind in my face at all. At 55 MPH and up, I get some minor wind that hits the very top of my head, but its not bad at all. With a euroflip on the windshield it easily makes it seem like it is 2-3 inches taller.

Best of all, I think it looks way better than the Honda 20 inch windshield. Here is a link to the website where I got it from: http://bikescreen.com/collections/honda/products/honda-goldwing-valkyrie-f6c-2014-2015

I have pictures of it on my Valkyrie, just not sure how to upload pictures here.

I am actually hoping that switchblade makes a system for the new Valk...I like the idea of the mounting bracket mounting to the forks instead of the bars...makes perfect sense...and then having a couple different size windshields..I like the idea of a short 'wind deflector'...doesn't slow you down, but pushes the majority of the wind AND BUGS (most importantly) safely over your head.

I bought the 8 inch Gustafson shield because I was afraid I'd have to look through the 15 " one. I'm also 5'9".  Are you ale to see over the 15"?

The 8" works a lot better than the 5" Honda boulevard screen and it's a lot easier to hold on at higher speeds.  However the wind noise is still a problem over 60 mph where it's hard to hear my Bluetooth helmet radio.

Seeing over the 15 inch is no problem at all. I just measured and the top on the windshield is about 9.5 inches above the LED gauge on the center of the handle bar.

I haven't tried my helmet radio yet, but I'm guessing it should be fine as the noise is very minimal.

I can email some pictures of it on my bike if you want to see how it looks.

Both the Gustafson and the Secdem have their own advantages.

The Gustafsson has a flip at the tip to force the air higher, over the riders head to prevent buffeting.
The Secdem is much wider than the Honda windshield.

I've notice a great deal of wind on the sides of my large Honda windshield. Not to the point that I hate it, but I haven'r ridden more than a few miles so far.

Can you let us know how you like the Secdem once you receive it and use it for awhile? Is there a lot of vibration and does the wind go higher than your helmet? How tall are you?

I'm 5.7" and have no problem with the Secdem, no vibrations or buffeting . This summer, I may lower the windshield, it's easy. I guess that whatever your size is, the wind will never get higher than you helmet.

According to the Gustafson shield  website their 15" windshield uses the Honda Boulevard windscreen mounting brackets.   Does anyone know or tried to mount this windshield using the Honda Tall/Touring Windshield mounting brackets.   I currently have the Honda Tall windshield but would like to try out the new 15" Gustafson windshield so that I could look over the top instead of through it as I am 5' 11".   I really don't want to purchase the Boulevard brackets unless I have too.   Smiley

Sheffjs - i hope your experience with them goes better than mine. I would not recommend this product based on the cheap, crappy mounting hardware. mostly plastic, breaks easily. at least in my experience. Reached out to the company today - we will see how it goes. The windscreen itself is very nice, but I am most unimpressed with the use of plastic collars for mounting, especially when we compare what Honda uses - sturdy metal mounting hardware...

I have the 8 inch Gustaffson, it works way better than the stock small Honda Windshield.  However, at highway speeds, 75 and above its pretty useless.   I just ordered the 15 in screen, which I just learned mounts on the stock Honda Boulevard mount.  I'll give a full report later. I'm 5-8 and I use the Corbin Solo Seat.  I hope I see over it!

I will have all new hardware before I mount this and that will be after the sauna summer Florida has gone. I am 53 years old and sat behind a show chrome windshield on my 2000 interstate and stock Honda on my 1999 Interstate for some time. Now having no windshield for the short summer rides has been awesome!

Hi there folks, this is Zach from Gustafsson Plastics. We wanted to express our gratitude to you guys and also provide a good place to ask us direct questions about sizing, custom options, mounting, etc.

So here is a 10% discount code to be used on our F6C Valkyrie screens. I've also posted this on the F6Cforum  Smiley This is the promo-code to be used during the checkout process: GPF6C

Mounting Brackets! I also wanted to note that we can provide mounting brackets (which we will pre-drill and install) for easy installation. They have an adjustable tilt-angle which locks and is stable at high speed. If you don't get the mounting brackets, the screen will come un-drilled. (Drilling is an easy process and we have a walk-through video posted on our site)

Custom Sizes! We are all about custom screens, which is one reason why we provide a variety of tints, without upcharges. So we are happy to make some custom shields up for you guys! Just ask!

Smiley

^^The Touring brackets are a little too wide for our normal screen but we are also making a larger touring screen if you'd like to shrink it down a little or change the color.

Feel free to ask any questions and I'll try to get back to you as soon as possible! I can post some other pictures if you'd like or try to collect different reviews that we've had emailed to us.

I just completed an 1100 mile trip in all weather conditions.  I had the 15 Gustafson installed on the Honda boulevard mounting brackets.  Im only 5-8 and I clearly saw over the windshield   The windshield was covered with bugs daily, but not one on my full face helmet.  The wind seemed to hit me above the eyes.   I could keep my face shield up to about 65mph then had to put it down.  Great product, great company.

The sky's here gave me a small window to test three different angles of the Secdem windshield today and the middle position knocked my head around like a pinball!  Big difference when I adjusted it all the way up.  Coming from a Valkyrie Interstate where I had a fixed windshield for over 2years I find that I am enjoying no windshield way more than I thought so other than bug season and Florida winter snaps I might have it off.   The Gustafson - how does it do in triples?  I felt better doing high speed with no windshield.  65 and under it was great.  Also I did find an excellent aluminum hardware kit on eBay so I did not use the Secdem upper hardware at all.

Hi Sheffjs, what measurement did you order your Secdem windshield in? I checked the website for Secdem, and it seems you select the height you want in centemeters.

I did order as it comes meaning no additional cost to have a "custom cut bubble" so the web site shows 42cm.   I am 6' nothing 31" inseam and my sight is just over the windshield.  I haven't had but 45 minutes behind it so I do not have a lot of ride information as of yet. I will be paying close attention to buffeting as per my first ride.  I am not a long distance runner and will not use a windshield saving Love bug season and cooler Florida winter months.
