I am thinking of using the Corbin Fleetliner saddlebags and their Gunfighter seat on my 2014 Valkyrie. Anyone using them, and if so, how are they for fit and finish? Is the quality top notch? Is the seat a significant improvement when it comes to comfort on long rides?

I got the two-up seat. I am very satisfied. Good handlebars made the most difference for comfort, though... -Mike

It's a very good combo. Stock seat was horrible. The dual seat set-up with the driver backrest also works good. The bags are of top quality. Expensive, bite the bullet and buy them if you can. Much better than any other option. Back pack got real old. Took me 62 days to get them.

If Honda would have put those Corbin Bags as a "Tourer" option from the factory I bet they would have sold many more bikes then they have. Looks awesome!

I bought a Corbin seat in Feb. Was hard as a rock for me. Called them up and they said to return it and would modify to my specifications. Could not get the side panels off for battery or storage box without breaking off the tab for the upper grommet or remove the seat to get them off if needed. They were going to reshape the seat and add padding. I sent them a picture of my Russel seat on my VTX. I have since called them repeatedly and keep promising to return my call from the factory rep and have not seen or heard from anyone yet. I returned the seat end of Feb said about 6 weeks? I found the insert image tab but have no idea how to insert a picture. Thought I could paste it in. does not seem to work.

Yeah, that's important to note: side covers won't come off with the seat on... kind of a drag, since I added the OEM "cigarette lighter" under the seat to drive my relay(s)...
I don't think Corbin's much of a custom shop, you like their stuff as-sent, or you don't like it.
The seat is indeed hard, and I'm coming off of 70,000 miles on an Ultimate, but I have found the Corbin seat pretty easy to get used to.
Russell is probably the way to go if you need custom fitting...

I had a Corbin on my VTX1800C and although a hard seat if you ride it for a few hundred miles you will find you can put more Butt time on it than a softer seat.

I have been throwing around whether to get a Corbin seat or the Russell Daylong. I did love my Corbin on my old I/S, but I always wanted a Russell. The only problem with the Russell is that I will have to wait until the riding season is done before I can send it in. With the Corbin I can just order one and replace my OE one with it when I get it. Those Russell seats look awesome though.
Does anyone know if I can keep my Utopia backrest when they redo the back seat? The hardware is attached to the rear pilon seat pan. I don't really want to buy the Russell backrest because of the cost. My Utopia backrest works perfectly fine.

I talked to Russell once, and got the idea they'd probably try to do whatever you wanted.
I like the Utopia, but the only reason I'd get a Russell would be to have a way to "go solo", so having to keep the back seat would cause me to go Russell on the backrest too.
The Utopia guy doesn't think much of adding mounting hardware to a front seat, he says he's tried it in the past and he thinks the physics of it (there's a lot of force exerted on the backrest when a big rider snuggles in with his feet on the highway pegs) is all wrong with the hardware in the front seat.

You need to check there site out. They have a few pictures posted of seats done for the Valkyrie and I think the F6B. One way or another I think i am going to have them do a seat for me. Wish I could post a picture of my VTX seat. I had a silver VTX F model and they two toned the seat in leather. embriodered the VTX logo into the seat . I thought it looked great. One of a kind. Cannot figure out how. I found the icon for image insertion, thought I could paste picture in nothing happened. Check with Russell. You need to send the seat in you may be able to send the back rest and they can adapt it. They will do just about anything you request. They are very responsive. They say around I believe 10 day turn around and post update you on the progress of the build. They E-Mailed me a picture of the finished product before shipping for approval as well.

Thanks for your reply guys.
I sent Russell an email detailing what I wanted and how much it will cost. Now, I just have to wait on a reply.
My wife says I should wait for the Russell seat since there is not much of a price difference, especially since I will need to buy a backrest for the Corbin seat as well.
Their pricing is a little confusing, and I don't know if their solo price is for both pieces or just the front. I thought I knew, but they have some sort of explanation: "Note: A Solo Saddle is fitted only for the driver and its passenger portion, if any, is left as the factory made it".
I want both seats done just so that they look the same. It would look stupid with just the front seat done and the back left alone. Also, the material used on the OE seats is real crap. The vinyl is so thin that, when I put the vinyl back on after I put in the hardware for the Utopia backrest, the staples were going through the material. I had to really back off on the air pressure and hold the tip a little away from the material.
I guess I will just have to use the airhawk for this season. The OE seat really hurts my butt after an hour on it.
Also, now that I know that the side covers cannot be removed with the Corbin seat on. This makes me want the Russell seat even more.
I don't change my bike very often, I had my I/S for 12 years, and I plan on having this one for as long or longer. So, I guess in the long run the Russell seat is a better investment in my butt. I am not getting any younger.

Boy, Russell Daylong was pretty quick to reply to me.
Here is what they had to say:
"Hello, Yes you can retain your driver backrest and it will mount the same way. To get the process started, submit the online order form through our website. You will use the S-3 price code and a dual seat is rebuilding both into the day-long touring saddle. We are currently scheduling mid August for new seat builds and it is taking the full 2 weeks to complete, plus shipping. Thank you, Kim"

I'm glad I started this thread. The Corbin seat is out because you can't remove the side panels with the seat on. The Russell Day Long Saddle is interesting, but all of the pictures on their website look like they are from the older style Valkyrie. Anyone have a picture of one on a 2014+ Valkyrie?

Two screws and the Corbin comes off.

Two screws and the Corbin comes off. ... and it is a real nice seat. But it is still a drag that you can't just pop the side cover off and look behind the little locking door on the right hand side without removing the seat. I thought of trimming the side covers, but new ones are real expensive... -Mike

My 3 month saga with Corbin may be coming to a head. I talked to Corbin on Tuesday. Got ahold of the factory and they said the seat was getting the skin put back on it and would ship by wednesday. They said they would e-Mail tracking No. when shipped. After hanging up, I realised the following day was Wednesday. Wish I had asked him if tomarrow? Well its Friday and no tracking No. Guess its next week. Russell has pictured some F6B seats which I suspect would be about the same? If the Corbin mod. is not satisfactory to me I guess I will have to get a Russell seat for sure. At least I will have a seat while my original will be rebuilt. Was an unbeleavable seat for my VTX. Had it 9 yrs on that bike looked like new when I got rid of it in Feb and got the Valkyrie. Seat was all leather. Wish I new how to post a picture.

I don't know for sure, but I doubt a F6B seat is like a Valkyrie seat... Valkyries have "real" gas tanks, I think F6Bs and Goldwings have gas tanks under the seat. To post a picture, you need to put the picture on the Internet somewhere so that it has a URL. There's a limited ability for you to do that with this site, look for "photostash"... After your picture is on the Internet somewhere, type the URL into a post and surround it with image-twinkies... when your post is done, the picture will be where you typed in the twinkie-encased URL... -Mike

Find a shop that will rebuild your factory seat to your specs. The Bike week in AZ. has a guy that does it all week while you wait. 200 to 300 and your done! Everything still works and your butt is happy. It won't of course include a backrest
