Just found out as far as the ring gear is concerned it is Identical to the Goldwing.  The bearings even have the same ntn numbers stamped on them.  The gears even mesh between the valk ring gear and the GW pinion.  I already separated the GW ring gear for the spline cup.  For the next one I might just change the whole ring gear assembly.  Oh yeah, The GW final drive was $62.00 shipped to my front door. A star hub was $72.00.  The cheapest Valk final I saw on Ebay went for $360.00.  Comparing these prices I told my wife it was worth the gamble and she agreed.  I'm glad I did.

Even though the GW ring gear seems to fit in the Valk housing, I would not do that Mismatching pinion and ring gears would probably result in a howling monster going down the road. Much better to press the splines from the GW ring gear and press them in the Valk ring gear. Be sure to use the Valk bearing and spacer to keep the backlash and tooth engagement close.

I can't tell the difference between the ring gears when I'm holding both of them
in my hands.

But when I put a GW ring gear into an open Valkyrie final I had, it didn't
spin freely...

These are used units, they have existing wear patterns with each pinion gear/ ring gear combination. Unmatched pinion gear/ring gears do not play well together.
Also, the Valk units I have taken apart have a .080 spacer between the ring gear and the bearing. Most GW have had a .086 spacer. If the GW ring gear assembly is put into the Valk housing the .086 spacer would put the ring gear closer to the pinion.

If anyone needs a final drive from a Valkyrie I have one that I would sell for $350 plus shipping. About 55,000 miles on it, looks good with lots of grease. I can sent pictures.

That's a VERY fair price. I wouldn't let mine go let alone that cheap. Smokin'Joe was looking for one awhile back. Don't know if he found one. You could check with him.  cooldude

Thankyou for the tip.  It wasn't hard at all to press the spline cup.  and I just used a dab of grease to keep the bearing spacer in place.

If you are doing the GW spline replacement you need to end up with the same amount of backlash as you had before you took the Valk unit apart. That is where the thickness of the spacer comes in. Too little backlash, the spacer is too thick. Too much backlash, the spacer is too thin. Honda has 9 different spacers (which are measured in mlilimeters).
