Hi all,

I've been running my Valk on Penrite HPR Gas 10 semi-synthetic oil ever since I got it (3.5 years). This was the oil recommended by Penrite for my bike.

However they recently launched a range of motorcycle specific oils. This is the one I used a 15w50 PAO Ester full synthetic:

I must say I noticed quite a difference in the way the motor runs. Smoother throughout the rev range, smoother gear changes, and seems to want to accelerate a little bit faster. The clicky noise of the valves is also reduced to almost nothing.

Its expensive at about $70.00 for 4 litres, but I think was worth a try.

Valvoline makes an excellent 15W-50 full synthetic oil for NAPA that I have used in my Wings and Valk for years with great results, and it will only set you back about $20 for 4 quarts. Then go take your lady out to dinner with the $50 you'll save.....lol

Pen rite is an Aussie company and who knows what Valvoline costs there if even availible.

I found Valvoline 10w50 Synpower here. $64.00 for 5 litres. So yes its cheaper somewhat than the Penrite, but it isn't a motorcycle specific oil.

I have a question about Syn. oils , do the Syn. oils for automobiles have friction modifiers in them ??  and which car oils would be safe to use in our Valks ??  I have a friend that runs 20w - 50 car oil in his IS from Walmart and has no complaints .... I myself have using Amsoil Syn. 20w - 50 , but if I can get the same quality at a lower price then I would keep a case on hand ... Thanks the Geezer  crazy2

check specs of oils and Used oil analysis of diesel oils being used in m/c

is the penrite rated for diesel engines? Diesel oil has to protect an exhaust temp high speed turbo, needs to be high shear resistance due to the long strokes, needs to have high anti-wear additives due to the abrasiveness of soot., etc. Modern m/c no turbo, short strokes, no abrasive soot.
 if their oil is diesel rated then its just as good as other diesel oils.
bottom line u can get the same or better protection at a lower cost using diesel oil.
see used motorcycle oil analysis at www.bobistheoilguy.com, search for ST1100, gentleman has posted many reports even walmart supertech 15w40 provided excellent results, I tend to remember results where not as good for high end Redline oil.
remember Honda design the GL1500 engine to survive for 8k miles on their poor Honda brand 10w40 oil per oil analysis and still provided a warranty up to 7 yrs for complete engine replacement.  in late 90s motorcycle consumer news did an excellent report on used oils.

I use Shell Rotella T6 Synthetic in all my bikes.  This oil also carries an MA rating for use in Wet Clutch systems.  Never had issues with it and it is inexpensive.

In North America, The Angels were called Angel City.  I bought this album in the late 90's, and saw their Night Attack concert in Vancouver in '82 (I have that album as well, with the concert ticket stub).  They were awesome!

The Angels are from my home town, Adelaide. I've been a fan ever since the original version of Face to Face was released in '78. They toured the US a couple of times and got quite a bit of support in the northwest and Canada.

The band has kept going in one form or another for over 40 years now and has a long string of releases. Unfortunately their iconic frontman Doc Neeson passed away a couple of years ago, but they are still going with Dave Gleeson of The Screaming Jets fronting the band now.

There are only a few companies that refine motor oil and even fewer that make systhetic motor oil.  The base oils are generally very similar.  It is the additive package that is added to the oils that make them different.  Generally Diesel and Motorcycle oils have very few additives to the base oil.
Some Companies that DO NOT make oil:  Honda, Harley Davidson, Yamaha, Kawasaki...You get the picture.  SOme that Do: EXXON Mobile, Shell, Imperial Oil and others.
These companies will package their product with any name you want on it so you can sell Mobil1 under any name you want if you like.
What you need to look for is the SAE Rating (MA) and the Viscosity Rating (ie. 15W40)  After that it is all personal preference.  All oils with an MA rating and the same viscosity rating will perform almost identically.

Yep, it's a 15W-50 automotive oil and has a NAPA label on it and sold at NAPA stores. Have NAPA down under? No undesirable friction modifiers so it works great in cycles with wet clutches.

Don't know if you have it downunder, but Mobile one 15/50 is good stuff. Used it for 130,000 miles in my Valk. Got it in my Goldwing now. Hoser  cooldude

Amen to mobil 1 15W50 ran in all my valks, well over 200k combine never a problem but did have a clutch go out at 160k on one bike. It was the rivets in the damper that let go.  replace the fiction plates but reused the metal plates as they were still i specs.
