police Beware of a person who goes by the name John Thomas wanting to buy your merchandise.  He will offer to buy your item on the premise that you wire his carrier a large sum of money, which he sends you in a check, to come pick up the item.  When asked his address, he doesn't answer the E-mail.  This is a scam !!!

Last time I put something in the classifieds I got several of those type of replies.  Usually you can tell what they are by the sketchy words they use.  Like they don't phrase sentences they way you and I would.

Sounds like a classic scam.  I do wish they would atleast try to get a little inventive, but I suppose that they just stick with what works.
Thanks for the heads up.

Welcome to the world of SCUM BAGS. Don't ever wire money to anybody. Here in Mich. an older couple got a phone call which they thought was there grandson and stated he got into an accident and needed money wired to him. So they wire a large amount of cash. But it was not there grandson and lost the cash.  So watch your shoe shine, there are allot of scum bags out there.

All the more reason to create a 3rd section of the board for CLASSIFIEDS.  That way only VRCC members could post or see the posts to reply as well as see what new items had been posted very easy.

Currently only VRCC members can post to the classifieds.

The message boards and the classifieds can be read by anyone without registering.

We probably could use some improvement, but the bottom line is that if one posts an ad in a manner which gets maximum exposure to potential buyers one is also going to draw a fair share of dishonest imposters.  It's always been that way.  The difference is that in today's world the breadth of the internet and the availability of automation has increased the level of dishonest activity by several notches.

For buying and selling over the internet, not only must the buyer beware, but so also must the seller.
