I have a 99 Interstate and just bought my Nuvi 255W to mount. My question is where is the best place to get power to the unit? Should I put in a fuse block or is their another option that most everyone is using? This will probably the only option that I would run off the fuse block so that may be over kill. Ideas?

There is accessory power connection under the right side cover.  You would have to run it up to the front for the GPS. Depending on your skill level, you could remove the fairing and find switched power going to the dash lights.  GPS won't pull hardly any current, so you don't have to worry about that.

I added a cigarette lighter socket to the right side speaker cover.  For power I made an additional fused circuit directly from the battery. cooldude

FYI !!! Something people don't take in consideration. The wire that goes to the power make sure it is for 12 volts. I have had friends that clipped off the cigarette lighter plug and connected to 12 volts and fried the GPS.  I assume inside the plug is a regulator in it that goes from 12 volt to 5 volt power to the GPS.  Some GPS's have internal regulator and some have external built in the line. Check your manual before connecting.

I ordered the power adapter from Gilsson.com It is made specifically for the hard wire process and has the in line regulator. But I will admit that did cross my mind about the cig plug but the hard wire was only $24.00.

Don't ever assume it does not draw much current, and leave out a fuse !

getting stuck in a rainshower, without the gps nog mounted, can cause a short between the power connections on the mount.

then you start
- cooking the water off, or
- frying the wires, or
- blowing the fuse of your lights or whatever circuit you tapped into
which ever comes first  : what do you think !?

it comes with a fuse, USE it.
