hey all,

my steering stem bracket needs a little extra attention so while i'm at it I want to know if any of the bare metal parts have a coating on them I need to be aware of since some cleaners/polishes out there are not for coated surfaces.

over the years I've just been applying paste wax (Meguriers) to everything with nice results but time has begun to show its self on some pieces.

i'm not looking to get a high polish shine but want to remove what looks like a little oxidation and protect as well.

any tips, product recommendations, experience and thoughts are welcome.

thanks,

mike

Hondas clearcoat is on various aluminum parts, like the fork lowers and tripletrees. If you want to polish them, first mask off the area very well and spray some oven cleaner on the parts. After cleaning with water, use wet n dry sandpaper and work you way up the grit numbers form 600 to 1500. Then polish with a good metal polish and a buffing wheel.

Mike you might want to look into using Mother's Mag and  Aluminum  or White Diamond polish to cut the oxidation and shine those pieces your looking at. I have never found clear coat on the kind of pieces you've mentioned.
