Hello tech guys, need some input.

Bike is a 98 tourer.  I noticed that the taillight is blinking, and the brake light is not working.  The blinking is not regular, like a turn signal, more of an irregular thing.  Perhaps flickering is a better word, but the light does not dim any.  The turn signals and headlight work normally.  I checked fuses, and they are okay.  Battery is good.  Ideas?

Check the connector under the rear fender.
The brake light doesn't work with either switch ?

Tach working? If brake is out that is tied into same circuit, should be out too.

I suggest starting with the brake fuse if you did not look already. You might have more than one issue.

I had very nearly the same thing on my 98 tourer about a week ago, and all I did was open a little fuse box push down on the fuses in bingo that was the issue.  It's going to be some loose connection or a bad ground most likely.

As already stated start with the fuses and check your bulbs but realize that the multi-wire connector under the rear fender takes the most abuse.

Better to be judged by 12, then carried by 6.

Start at the point of the problem. Try another bulb. Check to see if you are getting power at the bulb plug. Do you have a test light?

Thanks to all for suggestions/ideas.  I haven't had the time yet to really get back there and check things out, but I now have a good idea of where to start the search.  Ride safe....Bill
