My kickstand spring has completely come off as a result of the spring post fracturing clean from the bike.

Nevertheless, I have a new one in hand. Can someone post a picture of how it mounts under the bike. A picture is worth a thousand words.

Thanks in advance for having to get down on your hands and knees to take this photo to take this photo

Thanks.

It looks like I am missing the post where the top spring hook attaches.

I do not see that post piece as a part number on any side stand schematic????

I couldn't find one had to be ordered. I bought a couple of metric bolts (one for a back-up) and rigged up a substitute until the part arrived.

Bolt#6 holds the switch in place and it threads into the back of the kickstand pivot bolt(#5).

I do not see that post that is required for the spring loop??

The bolt that holds the spring is #11 on the frame page:

    HOOK, SPRING
50536-MZ0-010 (replaces 50536-MZ0-000)    001    $5.44    $4.25

I did post that was in 2010. The picture shows where #11 is located. Thanks for the correct part.

Good job Mike.  cooldude

Every so often the schematics throw you a loop.

(I kept going back and forth between the picture and the schematic and couldn't find it either.)

And for anyone reading, having an extra 11 is a very good idea, one speed hump too fast and you'll need another 11 yourself. (along with the spring)

I think I have one in my on board parts kits, but if not......  And a petcock coverset.

The special screw is the "post" for which you were searching.

The good news is there are several ways around the issue.  If you're into really simple a bungee cord will hold it up until your order arrives.

Is the kickstand droping as a part breking a commond thing    Mine broke the spring post letting the kickstand drop and hit the road at 65 mph spooky but didn't wipe me out.

I don't think it's that common, but does happen.  Either the spring breaks, or I think more often someone runs over a bump/obstruction/high spot and knocks off the frame stud (#11), and the spring falls off.  And I think some may hit/scrub and damage the stud once and are unaware, then later hit it again and it breaks off.  Some hit so hard they damage the whole cross member (see shoptalk).  Damage may also occur getting on or off a trailer.

I don't know for sure but think it would be more likely with lower than std 13" shocks.

What are your thoughts on using a Grade 8 bolt in lieu of the Honda screw(post)?

My screw(post) snapped off at the base where it starts to thread into the kickstand bracket.

The nut has a grip on the broken bolt. Just unscrew the nut and the broken bolt comes out.

On my Tourer the bolt was bent taking the tension off of the spring. Looking under the bike as the bike lift was pushed under the bike the lift was hitting the bolt if pushed under the bike too far.

Besides that, it is important to make sure you're not putting pressure
on the exhaust headers when you're lifting if you have a "stays on bike"
lift adapter...

I keep an extra bolt and spring in my parts inventory.  I broke mine off hitting a boulder in the road up in NH about 10 years ago.  Did what a Willow suggested and used a bungy to hold the stand up till I got home and made a bolt out of some parts I had.

Replaced that with OEM bolt & spring when they came in.

I wouldn't use any thing else but the OEM bolt, I feel Mother Honda wants the bolt to be the weak spot.

She could have made it much beefer, but didn't.

Had 2 brake. no reason that I know of. I carry a spare bolt and spring. Also a peice of insulated wire to tie it up in a pinch.
