All right, which one of you tightened my oil filter? Grin
Changed my oil today finding Mobil-1, 15x50 synthetic available in both quarts and 5 quart jugs in stock at Wally World. The jug rang up $5.00 less than priced, ($23.00)
My filter was very tight, couldn't get it off with my filter wrench. I destroyed it with large channel locks but got it off. I only tighten by hand and always lube my o ring. Undecided
I usually change at 3k intervals, however this went 5k. Maybe the extra miles seized it up?

I have never had a problem getting my filter off Doug. I use a cheap filter wrench but it always spins off with minimal effort.

I have had the same problem a few times, hand tighten, then fight the darn thing to get it off a few months later. Almost seems like the rubber gasket bonds to the motor.

Must have been oil change day Doug.  My filter came off fine.  5000 or so miles is where I try to change.  Carb sync while I had the bike on the outside chock and upright.  Even though I took pictures of the Baker Air Wings before I took them apart to shine them up I found out that you can put them together any number of ways all but one of which is incorrect. Doug I've found you can avoid all those pesky little problems like oil filters being too tight by never changing your oil filter. Evil Shocked 2funny

The gasket swells once it get hot...  ( people have the habit of tightening it till they can't turn it any more and that's wrong... It's a 1/4 turn once the gasket first makes contact...)

Doug, if you're using synthetic oil and changing it at 3k intervals, you're wasting some money. The need for that went out at least 20 yrs. ago, probably even farther back. The last "old" car I had was an '85 Fifth Ave. with nearly 200k on it when I traded. Had nothing but synthetic the entire time, still didn't use a drop of oil between changes at 6k miles. Our current car I use Mobil 1 in the car and Amsoil in the bike. The car goes a minimum of 6k miles between changes, often a bit more. The bike will also get changed every 5k, mostly because I don't get a chance to ride it as often as I'd like so I want to get rid of the acidity and start afresh. If I were able to ride/travel as in the past, I'd have no problem going 8k if it's mostly highway miles.

A year ago Rita gave her little Lexus to her granddaughter, nothing but synthetic in it for the well over 100k it had when given away. It ran perfect and didn't use a drop between 6k changes.

Your right John, the Mobil 1 jug states 15k intervals, guaranteed protection.
I'm just a freak that way. Same with my truck and her suv... 3k. I like to pull the dipstick and see clean oil, like honey. I don't consider oil wasting money, lifeblood of the machine.
