I think my Valk, 2001, standard is some soft on the rear for 2 up riding, and i have been tiped here to check out the shock absorbers for the Interstate.. Any tip where to buy? Or a part number to make the internet search more easy!? Are they same length as on my Standard?

I suspect you were "tipped" to check the classifieds on this website. Interstate shocks come up once in awhile when people upgrade their shocks. Otherwise the best places to check are Ebay and Pinwall salvage (an Ohio salvage store with an Ebay store.) However, since the Interstate has been out of production since, I believe, 2000, there are relatively few lightly used shocks for sale out there. Someone else will have to comment on the length, but my impression is that the length as well as the internals are different on the standard/tourer and the Interstate. As you can see by reading this board most folks opt for Progressive shocks or for Works Performance. (I've recently upgraded to the latter.)

You won't believe the difference (smoother/controlled) the progressive 416 air shocks will make. For the price of 416's vs what a good set of HD replacements cosy, I'd bit the bullet and go with the air shocks. Believe me, I've had them for 10 years and by-the-way, Progress will rebuild them if and when that time comes along. Just another 2 cents.

Length are idential for all Valks, 13 inches. Internals are different for OE shocks between IS and others. Going to OE IS shocks may be a good idea (for your weight requirements) but like previously reported, they are all old now, so it's a dice roll. If you want some reasonable Progressive 412s, call them direct and talk to a tech with known weights for you, passenger and usual gear, and ask for advice regarding std and HD. Their best are 440s. Progressives have the same internals, but different progressive spring weights. Once you have an idea of what you want, shop that part elsewhere. No one can give advice on what shocks would suit you without known weights and loads.
PS if you are not a sporting rider dragging pegs/boards, you can go to 12.5 or 12s (or even 11.5s if you never lean) as well, but you will have less travel/cushy ride the lower you go.

Thanks guys... Seems like progressive 416 air shock absorbers could be the way to go  And maybe a nice set up with a gauge and maybe even a compressor!? Sounds like a job for next winter;)

Ive never been a big air shock fan so I went with the progressive 440HD's and could not be happier, especially since I'm 340 pounds and am pretty much 2 up with a solo seat

Progressive 440 Heavy Duty here  With the heavy Duty you won't have any regrets, and they'll handle any weight requirement you can throw at them. I've had two friends purchase the 412's and regret it. Then upgraded to the 440's. IMHO, and just my opinion, If yer gonna lay out the cash, do yer homework and do it right the first time.

Got the 412's and were great till I now do 2 up all the time. They are @25k and got too soft. Need to upgrade and am looking too at shocks 440 or 416 air?. Glad you asked about shocks ,knew the Valk guys would help. Me and SO are @350 or so. and with a trip load would the air be better? Thanks! Doug.

i ve had the 416 s for afew months now and love them, 2-up they are fine as long as the weight is not exessive(365 lbs combined) i don t think i would recomend them for over 400 lbs. they don traise the bike they just make the dempenning harder.

I'm 265, SO is right on 200, she don't ride now, but when she did I went with 440 HD, set the on 3 and never looked back,
