Just picked up my new '14 ABS today, in the fastest color - Black.  Bought it in L.A. and rode it down to Pasha in San Diego, for shipment to Hawaii.  Loved the ride, and I didn't want it to end.

As a former Rune owner, I was interested in the Valk because  of the similarities.  I love the engine, and like the idea of a new bike with a warranty.  The Valk feels so much lighter, easier to handle, and is probably faster off the line.  This will be a fun bike to ride.  The only negative I found was that the ride is a lot stiffer than the Rune, I'm hoping there's some adjustment there.

Now the hard part is waiting 3 weeks for the bike to arrive in Honolulu.  I feel like a kid at Christmas.

It has a spring preload adjustment located behind the left side cover. I believe it is set at the factory at 18 clicks. Turn counterclockwise to soften.  Smiley

There is only 1 Valkyrie in Hawaii right now, and it's a 2015.  Dealer wants list price.  I was fortunate to find a great deal on several 2014's near LAX.  We were flying through there, so we added an extra day.  Cost $660 ($560 + $100 for the pallet) to ship on Pasha out of San Diego, so I still saved almost $6k.

This wait is killing me, never thought 3 weeks would come so slowly.  An example of how bad this is?  Today I found a web site that shows the location of the ship carrying my new Valk.  Damn, that boat is slow.

I wonder how much of this difference can be attributed to the longer wheel base of the Rune?

It's possible, but I attribute the difference to 2 factors:
1) the Rune is so much heavier, hence a more car-like ride, and
2) the front suspension on the Rune, as complicated as it is, works extraordinarily well.  Someone from Honda once said it was a success that you'll never again see on one of thei bikes - it's just to expensive to build.  And after replacing my front tire, my dealer told me they'd never again do it for that price :-)
