So tonight I have the radiator pods off the 99I/S to do some cleaning. While I'm in there I pop off the carb cable covers to give them a polish. Sink figure I should check the carb boot clamps. Low and behold they are ALL loose. And not just a little loose either. So I tighten them up several turns each. Then continue cleaning. When I get her all back together, of course, I take her for a little spin. HOLY CRAP. it's like a new bloody bike. Roll on the throttle an she takes off like a scared rabbit. It idles smoother and cruises smoother. I think I will get the carb sync checked (unless anyone in Toronto west has a digi sync I could borrow no funds to buy yet) and see what that produces.
Now if I could just find out what is making the rattle under 2500 rpm I would be a happy camper.

I have taken the liberty of contacting a fellow I know and trust who I think lives near you. He has a DigiSync, Hopefully he should be getting in contact with you shortly. He is on another forum so there may be a communication issue. If so then I will get you two together some other way.

Much like the carb clam tightening when the didgisync is done another major difference in performance. So didja tighten all 18 of them? It ONLY took right at 5 years of ownership to unlock ALL the potential of my engine! Again-Kudos to Bon S. RIDE SAFE.

I did check the Torque on the Buzz Bolt but I may need to revisit. This actually sounds like Detonation under load. I was thinking maybe an issue with spark advance from the ICU. I need to check the Tach input to see if it is getting a signal.

I am fairly new to the engine.

also check the cooper crush gaskets at the exhaust connection. over time they shrink due to heat and let exhaust through. they can sound like a rattle. also check the exhaust pipe hanger bolt. i had one come lose before. it made a rattle sound to.

Just be VERY careful when tightening the exhaust header nuts. The studs twist off very easily. I think the torque spec is something like 7 lb/ft.

Exhaust Gaskets were done shortly after I got the bike. I pulled the exhaust off when I did the rear tire. (yes I know I probably didnt need to) I polished it up good while it was off anyway. New gaskets and 1 new stud that broke during removal.
