hi

I have a knock in my valk engine, its not the timing belts or the adjustment idlers, tappets or exhaust which can all be heard in the sound file, its the dull knock.
with the clutch in or out makes no difference
it can be felt by holding the water pump but i've had the water pump out and its as smooth as,
can the oil pump and scavenge pump or chain drive make noise like a knock ?
any help is appreciated
the next question is has anyone had any experience in dismantling a valk engine down to the level of engine casing apart.
regards greg

is the noise a new issue?  Did it start suddenly or did you notice it maybe after changing fluids?

Your wave sounds normal to me.

I think what you are hearing is a sound out of your exhaust system,

The best way for me to explain it is: 2 exhaust notes fighting to get out the door at the same time......

I am far from an expert, but I agree something is not right there. It appeared that the noise was louder when the camera was in the front area of the bike. Have you tryed listening with a screw driver to your ear? Putting the tip of the driver to different locations on the bike? Definitely need to do something to narrow down the area of the noise. Also check the header nuts because an exhaust leak can give you a similar sound. Good Luck!  Cool

The idle is too low. It should be up around 900 to 1000 rpm's.

hi
thanks for your comments
the noise has been getting more noticeable in the last 10000kms, you'd think it would of broke by now if it was too major, but wonce you pickup on a noise you just can't stop hearing it, dosen't help with the tourer screen on but even with it off is still there.
I'm going to change to a good synthetic oil.
and see if that screw drive trick can give me a idea
I was reading the manual, is it right the scavenge pump for the rear case lubricates the chain for oil pump,?  how much oil is back there anyway there's a filter mentioned too.
anyway thanks again  98 tourer 46000km red and cream darksided
regards greg
