Supposed to ride this morning, waiting on a friend who's never late.
He's stuck, bike turns over, will not start. He's checked the kill switch, cleaned and lubed contacts in both starter and high-low beam switches. He says he has no spark. Any Valk related "no spark" problems? Suggestions? Oh yeah, 97 Standard.

Old battery will do that.  Starter will spin OK but not enough volts to run the ignition.  Have him jump it and see if it starts.

FWIW....."MY" personal experience (98 Tourer) with "no spark" was casued by bad Ignition Pulse Generators (IPG) located near the trigger wheel.....I also believe bad coils might cause the same problem.....there are probably several easier and faster things that may cause this that you should check first....IPG's are probably the the last thing on the list of possible causes to check out.......might do a search under "No Spark" (or even IPGs) and see what others have experienced.....good luck and let us know what you find.....

Have him check the starter solenoid under the right side cover,  It should NOT look like this.

If it does, he needs to buy this part:

If the above is needed, once installed, move the big red wire to the correct slot.   This unit is for a Gold Wing, but works perfectly for a Valk replacement.    Good luck.

Like the other guys said, check the easy stuff first, especially the battery.  Jump start the bike with a car battery (car engine off).

If the simple stuff looks good, go to the FAQ's on the VRCC site and pull up the electrical prints.  On page 5 it shows the Ignition Module located under the seat.  One of the inputs is a wire that must be grounded in order for a spark to be generated.  The ground comes from several sources: clutch lever pulled in, kickstand up, transmission in neutral.  Check that wire and be sure you have a ground at that point.  Even if the devices are functioning, there could be a break in the wire between them and the modual. tickedoff tickedoff

Do the lites work?? If you can't jump start it, try push starting it.. Like was stated, if the battery is a bit low it'll crank but won't fire.. There have also been a couple cases of defective pulse generators.. Does this monster have an aftermarket trigger?? There have also been a couple problems with the trigger to generator clearances with these triggers.. Does this monster have an early  Dyna ICM ??
