My daughter would have clawed this man's eyes out of his head if he had done this to Presley. I on the other hand would be in jail tonight . Most of you know my 3 year nephew was brutally beat to death I have no room for anyone who harms a child . SEPTEMBER 2--Meet Roger Stephens. The Georgia man, 61, was shopping Monday morning at a Walmart in Stone Mountain when he crossed paths with Sonya Matthews and her two-year-old daughter Paige. The child was crying, which apparently greatly perturbed Matthews. "If you don't shut that baby up I will shut her up for you," Stephens warned Matthews, according to a Gwinnett County Police Department report. Moments later, Stephens acted on his threat, slapping Paige "across the face approximately four or five times." Though the child "started crying and screaming" after being struck, Stephens told Matthews, "See, I told you I would shut her up." After police were summoned, Stephens told a cop that the child was crying "and he just slapped her," according to the report. Stephens was arrested for felony cruelty to children and booked into the Gwinnett County Detention Center, where he is being held without bond. Paige sustained "slight redness to the face," but was otherwise unharmed.

You can tell by his picture that the guy has some issues. Sad really, why or how someone goes through life with such a hateful attitude. Before I shot him I would have to know why he thinks harming a defenseless child improves his world.

I agree with what has been said.....also just another good reason to not shop at Walmart. I used to drive by a local Walmart on the way home from work everyday. Now I take a different route so that I dont have to put up will all the people making a right turn into the Walmart parking lot from the left lane (crossing three lanes of traffic)

OK, first of all I agree he had no right to slap the kid. But... What happened to responsible parents that would remove a crying child from the store or restaurant? I miss those days. We got hauled out to the car and got our asses handed to us. I followed the same rule, My kids learned to behave. No running around stores, no running around in restaurants, no screaming crying or begging. Man I sure miss those days. I don't like taking my Granddaughter to restaurants, because she never learned how to sit and behave. I have no problem telling my son why we don't go out to eat anymore when they come to visit. I guess I'm getting old.

+1 Jeff. No flames from me. Guess I am getting old too. I remember being removed from church for acting up. I was NOT hit, but told in no uncertain terms that would not happen again, and it did NOT!
Nowadays, half the time you cannot hear the sermon, because parents just sit there with unruly kids, spoiling it for everyone else. Same with all public places.
This does NOT say I agree with the man. I do NOT. However, the parent should do some PARENTING! Which is NOT the same as trying to be their child's best friend.

@ss several times growing up if I were acting up in a store....and in my case, I most likely deserved it.....I was a "good" boy all through school and never got into any trouble, but I remember my Dad telling my teachers on the first day of school...."If he acts up, please spank him and TELL me...then I'll spank him again when we he gets home"....they never had to do that, but my brother and I did plenty at home to get our butts spanked...my Dad would make us go get our own "hickory" branch...Lord help us if it wasn't big enough.....We were never abused, but disciplined when needed(probably needed more at times), so we didn't act up out in public much..... I personally would not do what that guy did....but agree with Jeff and MP that it's a shame that it seems most places you go these days can be spoiled with crying kids that are raising tee-total hell.....and if you DO try to discipline them in public, most folks would have you put in jail for child cruelty.....I did once tell a couple at a table across from us who's kids were making a big, loud scene ...."Thanks for helping me reaffirm my decision to have a vasectomy!!"...when they left the restaurant, everyone started clapping!!!....... As I was on my way into Publix yesterday, I saw a small school bus from the next county over in the parking lot....I wondered why they were there since they have a publix in their county?.....as soon as I walked in the door, I heard a loud wailing....wtf??...as I was walking to find an item, I see these middle school age kids with a lady pushing a cart...she had the cart in one hand, and a boy by his arm twisted up behind his back with the other...HE was the one crying like a girl....I was on the OTHER end of the aisle and couldn't quiet make out what he was acting up about......but as I paid for my item, the Lady was walking the boy out and putting him back on that bus...... God Bless Bus Drivers and teachers of today!!!.....

Well, nobody has a right to slap a child. Spank, yes, if he is in your charge but, not slap. My x-son-in-law slapped my 6y/o grandson 2 months ago. I had my daughter call in the state services although she did not feel it necessary. After they confronted him and he owned up to it, he called my daughter and asked why they were called in. She said it was them or me and she felt the state would serve the problem better. I was/am praying he calls me about it.

Two years old is when teething comes into play maybe the little girl was sick and Mom was getting some over-the counter medication or getting a prescription filled it's no secret Wally World has some of the best prices for prescription drugs. Teething can cause fever, cough, fussing and even diarrhea to name a few....If he'd done that to my grand-baby as stated I have no doubt I'd shot him. He hit her FIVE times no telling what this prick was capable of.I hope Tyrone or Billy Bob and their buddies find out what he did while he's locked up.

Disciplining a child for acting up by a parent is one thing ( a slap to the face of a toddler is not acceptable in any case)....But the way I read this story is the guy is a stranger....not the parent... that is called assault he should have the snot kicked out of him period...

Misbehave again, your little ass is taken home and them whomped on. I have to say, I have 18 grandkids I am proud to take anywhere & know I will not have a problem with them, thanks to my kids up bringing of them.. They have all been forewarned, grandpa can & will warm your butt if ya misbehave, period.

I'm with Joe.... I'd have beaten him to a bloody pulp if it was your kid.... or grandkid... If it was one of mine.... as my Italian friends would say ..... fuggedaboudit !! I'd drop him where he stood... ----------------------- Brings to mind a story... One time about 12 years ago.... a good friend of mine.... insurance salesman and myself had gone to lunch.... coming back we see this old black pickup truck driving erratically in a parking lot to our right... some ole boy, his wife (we presumed) plus the two kids standing up in the front seat.... He is slapping her repeatedly in the face and neck and what made it all worse was that both of her eyes were bandaged up.... I mean totally covered up with gauze and tape... so we stop in front of him and he comes to a grinding stop... We get out and challenge the guy.... to stop... or else... so he jumps out of the truck .... with a pistol.... so my friend hits him on the side of the head, puts him on his back and steps on his wrist and takes the gun from him... Somebody calls the police and they are there in just a few minutes.... I tell my friend... WOW... Do you realize what could have happened just then... He says... Yeah... But my Mama gave me something for dealing with a*&^% like him... he showed me his balled up fist.... We both laughed.... The EMTs were pouring over this guy and his wife was standing up for him... which I couldn't believe... she had just had eye surgery on both eyes that morning and he was upset because it cost him so much money and that he was going to have to take off from work for three days to take care of her... instead of going fishing.... So the Policeman comes over to my friend and asks him... "Sir, did you hit this gentleman?" My friend looks him dead in the eye and says "I surely did, but that's no gentleman and I'd do it again if I witnessed him hit his wife again, or if he pulled a gun on me again." The Policeman says "He was hitting his wife and then pulled a gun on you?" My friend says: "I guess he left that part out?" The Policeman didn't say another word, he just walked over to the guy and put him in cuffs and charged him with several misdemeanors, public display of a handgun and reckless endangerment. We wound up taking the lady and her kids home and calling a family member to come take care of her and the hubby got a few days to cool off in jail. Like my Papa says, You've just got to stand up when something is wrong.... Hitting a kid in the face is wrong... I don't care if he is acting up or crying or whatever... I got plenty of spankings when I was coming up too, but never got hit in the face by my Dad even once. He said.... God made a place for spanking, now be still so I can hit you there!

RJ, When we get our Granddaughter for a month in the summer we get a chance to teach her some manners. She comes around real quick. But unfortunately we have to send her back to her mother, then it all goes out the window.

I don't think I would have shot him. People that would do something like slapping somebody else's kid (screaming or not) are not worth going to prison over. But, when the LEO's arrived and asked how he got in that condition, I'd look'em straight in the eye and say "He tripped and fell 32 times"!

Donning Flame proof suit...
I hear that chit Jeff, totally agree,my kids were never allowed to behave that way,and they darn good kids to this day.

He hit her FIVE times no telling what this prick was capable of.I hope Tyrone and his buddies find out what he did while he's locked up.
Or... she was ignoring an unruly brat that had been crying forever, while she shopped for donuts. I guess we don't know do we. My wife used to tell the girls when they were in the store,if they were to act up,which was rare,"do we need to to go to the rest room !" they knew they better toe the line then.

My kids got their rears spanked anytime I felt they needed it in order for them to become better men. However, that being said, a two year-old is still a baby.
If I was in a situation where a mother was loudly protesting as I assume she was while a man slapped her two-year olds face over and over I would have fed him his own a$$, video cameras or not.

You lucky dog....that chick is much hotter than what I see at my local Walmart...by the way, stopped in once on the Valk and the cashier did not want to let me out of the place until I paid for my helmet (that I did not want to leave on the bike). She called the manager as I walked out. I only shop there when I need something in the middle of the night.
